Cella Storage

Just wondering how many of you put your Cella (croap) into a different container instead of using the small red Cella jar that it comes in?

I wrap the brick tightly in saran wrap then put in a large baggie, squeezing out the air. It keeps more than a year if not unwrapped often.

I cut mine apart into 125g chunks (1/8's), separately wrapped and bagged, then put into a freezer container, then into the deep freeze. I figure it will last indefinitely.

I use a tupperware contaiiner for what I am using at the time , the rest is wrapped up in a ziplock bag in the box in a dark drawer..

I prefer to have a larger container than the red bowl. I have a metal shaving bowl with lid that has a wider mouth so I'll transfer the Cella into it. However, I usually just buy the kilo block and use from it. As far as storing the kilo block, I simply put the soap in a large plastic bag, and store it in my closet which is dark and cool.

I have a 1 kg brick of Cella I keep wrapped in the plastic it came in, in the box it came in, under the sink. Still have some left after purchasing it 2 years ago. No problem keeping it that way. Just reloaded some into an old TOBS cream bowl last week, Works and smells like the day I bought it. I don't believe you have to obsess too much about Cella storage.

I have a Woodhead soap ramkin with lid that came with my scuttle. I break a chunk off my Cella brick and mold it into my dish using fingers. Most italian soft soaps are obtained in plastic containers with lids. I lather in the factory's container then dribble lather while I mix into my scuttle. Lather is remixed with water and any additives in the scuttle and rehydratedas necessary during the shave. Most soft soaps can be transferred and molded into another container.

A kitchen vacuumizer is a handy tool to make the loose soft Italian soaps a bit less susceptible to rancidification or drying out. (Although it's probably not strictly necessary, depending on where and how it is stored otherwise.)

I had a tub of Cella go "sour" on me after 6 months or so of not using it. I got a fresh tub and use it several times a week. I have used it for several months with no drop off in quality. Although I am no expert, this looks like a soap you have to use regularly or it will degrade. IMHO.
