Cella Clay Scent

Ok - first off - this "croap" gives a great shave. I cannot find a fault in how well my razor glided across my face after lathering up with it; my only problem lies with the scent. I'm wondering if I got a bad batch of Cella... because to me it smells like clay, and not even a bit like almonds. Is that the norm? I have the samples of TOBS Almond and a few others, and the ones that I used were very aromatic... some smelled "marzipanny" and some smelled like Jergens's lotion... but after reading countless praises about Cella I had to give it a try. It provided a very smooth shave (the most important thing) - but calling it "almond" scented is pushing it, IMHO.
I mean no disrespect to the Cella enthusiasts, btw... I am a newb DE shaver and am used to stronger-smelling soaps/creams. But to me, Cella is almost scentless.

Mine has a light almond extract smell. Can't say how it compares to other almond soaps or creams, tho, but definitely no clay scent.

I don't get a clay scent, to me it was more of a maraschino cherry scent. It was too sweet for my tastes but I will freely admit it was one of the easiest to lather and great shave products I've tried. It is good enough that I would be tempted to put it in rotation and just put up with the scent.

Yeah I definitely notice the marzipan, and really wouldn't say that there's much of a clay fragrance at all. I happen to love the marzipan scent, which is an added bonus.

After it ages and airs out a bit , the scent really changes and mellows out to a hint of vanilla and a very plain scent. My Cella is almost three years old and has has gotten to this point also , keep using it there is nothing wrong with it ,

Are you using the one in the red bowl or the one kilo box? I ask b/s the bowl is supposed to be more creamy and with a stronger scent. That's what I heard in this forum but can't tell for myself since I only have a chunk of the boxed one. To me it has a soft almond scent. Almost transparent. I'm only guessing but the one in the red bowl could be more sensitive to heat. Maybe it got spoiled during shipping? At this time of the year that's unlikely but a possibility. Something that you could do is combine it with a proraso cream. Someone in this forum recommended that combo. Sandalwood would be nice.

I have the big block. My first slice, kept in a plastic bowl with a top, seems to have gained a hint of a PlayDo scent after several months, subordinated to the sweet scent, which itself has become more muted over the months. It works great, in any case.

I have the red bowl - I like marzipan's smell, yet I smell nothing of the sort in my tub. Ah well, like I said, weird batch or not, it still shaves great. I made a superlather with it and my sample of TOBS almond last night and I didn't even need any aftershave later.

My slice off the brick smells like clay as well. Likely from airing out and/or accumulating minerals from my super hard water. If it still performs well I wouldn't worry about it. Bummer you didn't get to smell that sweet scent though.

Well, at least I know that I'm not the only one who noticed the "clay" scent. My batch must have been in storage for a while, I guess. Thanks Sulk.

I had a red tub of Cella about three years ago that had a very pronounced play-doh/clay/tallow scent. It was heaven, this tub provided some of the best lather I have ever used. I have purchased two subsequent red tubs and a kilo brick which did NOT have this play-doh/clay/tallow scent, instead the marzipan/almond/cherry sweetness was there and the lather from these newer tubs just wasn't the same.

I bought a tub of Omega that was old (unused, but old). It smells like modeling clay (no, not Play Doh) as well. I haven't lathered it up to see how it shaves but it looks to be fine.

Yep - clay has a scent. I have a ways to go before using it up, but I'd wager that my next order of Cella will smell like marzipan. Thanks guys.

doctordial

my brain goes "thonk"
I have Cella from the brick aswell it doesn't have that sweet mazipan smell, but it lathers up well so I'll keep using it. I was looking for the sweet almondy smell like P.160 though.
