Castle Forbes or Trumper's or something else?

Castle Forbes Lavender is the single best cream among many that I have ever used.

GFT creams are very, very good products, my favorites being Coconut and Sandalwood.

In my opinion, Castle Forbes Lavender is a superior product, which yields much better lather. *I suspect that Castle Forbes Lavender will last considerably longer than any other 200g cream from any other firm. In addition, (also IMO) the moisturizing properties of Castle Forbes Lavender are far superior to those of any other cream that I have used.

*I stand to be corrected on this point. I am basing this statement only on the relatively small amount of product I find necessary to obtain a copious amount of dense, stable and moisturizing lather.

Castle Forbes Lavender is at the top of my cream list. Trumpers is great as well.... but I give the edge to Castle Forbes. Penhaligon's Endymion and Floris No. 89 are a couple others at the top for me. I've been frequenting soaps more lately..... but every so often I slip a cream shave in there too.

Geo F Trumpers makes some fabulous, old school scents. I will say, however, that I find their creams lacking in terms of lubrication and density. Their scents are wonderful, but sold at a premium. Pricing makes sense, as they position themselves as a luxury brand. The performance, however, I find unacceptable from a 30 dollar package. Their best product is probably their Skin Food, which goes on light and smells great. Also pricey, but might be nice to pick up as a special occasion post shave balm. I have their colognes saved in a wish list for birthdays and Christmas.

Truefitt and Hill is another English brand whose shave creams I have not used, but whose scents I have smelled. WOW does 1805 smell great. They seem to be well reviewed shave products as well, but are similarly priced to Geo F Trumpers. I would recommend trying samplers from both companies. I did that with Geo F, and have yet to do so with Truefitt due to a backlog of products.

My advice - start with Taylor's of Old Bond Street! Great English quality, huge range of scents, and products at half price compared to the others. My favorite scent from them is Jermyn Street, but their Avocado is wildly popular as well (I don't like the scent that much). They also make alcohol free Colognes which sell for less than their competitors.

I actually prefer lower priced Italian alternatives and some American based luxury soaps to all of these, but I own them all (with the exception of Truefitt) and put them into rotation. Hope this helps!

Penhaligon's Endymion and Floris No. 89 are a couple others at the top for me.

I had forgotten entirely about Penhaligon's. Their creams are, in my opinion, practically on a par with Castle Forbes Lavender: VERY protective, very moisturizing and virtually magical in the post-shave results.

Just to confuse you even more, IMHO Truefitt & Hill's creams are the best on the market right now. I put their quality, particularly their Lavender and Rose creams, to be right up there with the greatest cream of at least the past quarter century, Coates, which is now sadly defunct.

Thank you. I Love hearing the cream analysis. I currently have CF lime and Trumper's coconut. I am curious about the Penhaligon's I had never heard of it before. The_errancy, Would you say the Trumper's skin food is better then the Cf lime balm that I currently use?

Castle Forbes just gives a superior lather, a better performance and a more enjoyable shave IMHO.

Don't forget that the Pen's and Floris scents are some of the best as well. Great points.

Another vote for CF. Only because Al's wasn't a choice.

There are a great many options to choose from once one enters the wet shaving world. It really becomes a matter of preference. What do you like in a cream? What scents do you prefer? What creams best match your technique? There is simply not that much of a difference in the quality of lather between CF and Trumpers. They are both excellent. Good luck.

I was "new" about 6 months ago and I've gone through several creams in an effort to find one to keep, including inexpensive and high end. Final result- Castle Forbes Lavender for colder days, Castle Forbes Lime for warmer days. You get 200g and it requires less product to achieve a fantastic lather, so it will last long in my opinion. If you have a scent that you enjoy, it would be easier to recommend creams based on that.

EDIT: I find that the best shaving cream I've used to date is Acca Kappa 1869 in a tub. Great almond scent, great protection and very easy to lather.

Castle Forbes Lime is a classic. I also use Trufitt and Hill Lavender, and Rose. I feel this is the best out there for these 2 scents. I moved away from GT, TOBS etc. I sensed some chemical smells in heir stuff. For a little more, am happy with these 2. I also got TOBS grapefruit, which will be a new summer scent, it is great. The Castle Forbes, Trufitt and Hill may be a bit more money. I find they go a long way, with less shaving cream to use. Again, cant go wrong with these 2. I think just as good as SMN IMO. Nice day, Jimmy

I love how refined the castle forbes is. I only have to swirl a boar brush across the surface once, and generate more lather than I can use for a 2/3 pass shave every time. There are no other soaps or creams which work that well for me with my hard water.

This is amazing! Please share a video with us so we can see this great product in action.

Castle Forbes then Truefitt & Hill and then George Trumper . You couldn't go wrong with the Lime products from these three.

I'd pay money to see that. maybe if you push and dig the bristle in or like your lather like milky water and use a ton of water.

there is no way this or any soap can yield enough good quality lather for 2-3 passes from 1 pass over the surface.

as .soap. said, I'd love to see a video to prove me wrong, but am guessing we will never see one.

and yes, I have used CF and currently own it, so have some experience with the product, in case anyone is wondering.
