Castle Forbes Cedar/Sandalwood Balm

I am looking to get a balm. I am not really a fan of balms. The only one I've found that was good enough to make me keep it was proraso. I like the thin consistency of it. So I want one that isn't thick and sticky. I want a woodsy, fall/wintery type scent to it.
I am considering the Castle Forbes Cedar, but reluctant due to the cost. Is this worth it's high price tag ?
Another consideration was the Edwin Jagger Sandalwood.

Really what I'm trying to do is get up to the "free shipping" threshold on an order.

Hi Bob: I don't know why you are researching balms when you should be working on my brush, but.....

I just bought the Castle Forbes 1445 balm which I love, so if the Cedar has the same skin-care properties, it's worth it. I have been using Trumper's Lime, T & F Lime and D R Harris Arlington, but the C-F instantly became my favorite.

It's a pretty big bottle and should last a long time.

Hi mate!

I own a travel size bottle of that balm and I must say:

- the scent isn't very remarkable IMHO. More like wet woody than sandal.

- the consistence is thick but the skin absorbs it very well

- is one of the most "medicated", calming and soothing balm I have ever tried. Really helpful if you have have had a bad, irritated shave.

- Is it worth the price? Not really at least if you don't love the scent. But is a good addition to your travel kit (if you buy the travel size bottle like me I mean) for those shaves where you can't use your best hardware/software and in consenquence the risk of having bad shaves increases.

In my case, I'll only buy the bigger bottle if I find a good deal/discount, not at regular price.

Cheers!

A week back there was a thread on how to make your own CF AS. I made a batch up, and the stuff is woderful with a bit of Shea Butter thrown in. It would be the cheap way to go about it, and I got to mix up my own scent for it.

Other than that I got nothing, I have not tired the products your asking bout. Good luck finding something you enjoy.

I sampled it back in 2009 and remember that it smelled just like cedar by itself or the wood shavings you put in bird/hamster cages. I liked it.

I love it, but yes, it's 90% cedar, 10% sandalwood. Very natural wood smell to it. Couple it with a nice tobacco fragrance like Odori Tobacco or Lutens Fumerie Turque and you will smell like you just walked into a humidor.
