Caring for Carbon Steel

I have been a DE shaver for a few years, and am looking to make the jump to straight shaving. I have been researching razors and most of them in my price range such as the Dovo best quality are made of carbon steel. I have read a few different places that carbon steel blades are easier to hone, but that they are susceptible to water spots and rust. Is this something that would only happen if I didn't wipe it down after each shave, or is it something that will take more work to prevent.

I have also read about blade oil. How necessary is blade oil, and if it is needed how often does oil need to be applied.

I've only recently got into straights, but I found this (scroll to the bottom and look at the Silicone-treated Cotton sheath) and think it's well worth the price if it does what Jarrod claims it will do....of course after wiping it down between uses. You may want to look into it. He also sells the razor you are looking at, and does a great job honing them imho. Good luck.

Thanks, I had taken a look at these before but was skeptical. I suppose for 6 dollars I could take a gamble on it. beats having to oil my razor after every use, and then clean it the next use.

That's the same thought process I used, and I just plan to keep an eye on the blades to ensure they are good.
