Car Talk ending their show

Just read on NPR Car Talk is stopping production this year. Sad news, but I had no idea the older brother will turn 75 this year. Good run!

WOW!!! I always enjoyed their show when I was able to catch it. I wish instead of ending it they would hand over the reigns to some younger pair.

I had no idea Tom and Ray were that old. Too bad. Listened to it whenever I caught it, and even downloaded the podcast a few times.

My Saturday mornings are not going to be the same.

Boy, ain't that the truth. the only program I listen to on public radio.

Best wishes to both of them!

More info: they are retiring in September, but there will be a "Best of" continuing series starting in October with occasional updates from them.

I've been listening since it first came on the air as a local show in 1977. Even had the opportunity to come to a live taping (a friend was one of their first engineers). I think I've only missed a handful of episodes over the years. It's very sad to see them go...they're like old friends by this point. However, they have been stripping archived calls into their "new" shows for a number of years. For example, a couple weeks ago they repeated a call from Ashley Judd from at least 8-9 years ago.

If you can get KABC790 out of Los Angeles The "MotorMan" is a long running show on Sunday morning

He is getting long in the tooth also, his son fills in occasionally but he's not as smooth as Pops though he seems to know cars.

There is an app for it also

Leon Kaplan, ''The Motorman,'' has the longest runnin g uninterrupted show at Talk Radio KABC. It would be easy to dismiss this Sunday morning staple as just another one of those “car” shows, but one quick listen and, not only do you sense a master Motorman in charge of the three hours, but a down-home folksy character who is about as real as they come.
Mechanic to the Stars and host of a Sunday morning call-in radio show on KABC, Leon "The Motorman" Kaplan stops by the garage to introduce a slew of electronic diagnostic tools. It's amazing how far we've come since Leon's briefcase phone was cutting-edge technology. Now there's CarMD or the Insight CTS. They fit in the palm of your hand, plug in under the dash, then into your computer, to tell you exactly what's happening with your ride. (Click Here) for full biography.
