What's new

Can you identify brush material by picture? Recommendations on my next brush?

Here's an Imgur link if that's easier for you guys.

Came with this kit my fiancee got me for my birthday.
Now that I've learned a lot more about brushes, I'm concerned. It's listed as "100% Pure Badger" in the original package, but the brush pictured there is black, and mine looks more like what's usually called Best Badger. I know this isn't boar, because I got my fiancee an Omega boar brush for her set up, and it's nothing like that.

I think the brush performs well, and I really like the knot, but I just wanted to know as much as I could about it. I'm itching to get a Simpson's brush as well - probably the Colonel or the Commodore. Not sure if you guys could recommend other brushes in that price range.

Thanks in advance!

Congrats on your new brush!

As for the "pure" label, there is no industry standards and some companies will even label pillow soft silver tip as "pure".

I'm in agreement with you that this appears to be what many makers refer to as "best".

Enjoy it in good health.

Now half as wise
I suspect the label means it's 100% Badger, as opposed to a Badger/Boar combo. What we generally think of as "pure" as opposed to "best',"finest". etc. will usually be pretty coarse and scratchy. I agree that this doesn't look like that. It really is confusing since different makers use different terminology, and I'm not sure I always have it all straight!
