What's new

can someone compare OC

Okay I have an OC Sheraton and OC Aristocrate on the way. The only OC I have used is LC NEW. How would they compare? I know I could wait and see but ...

I have heard that the Sheraton is fairly mild...or is it the Senator? Pretty sure it's the Sheraton. The Aristocrat is supposed to be a wonderful shave. I also have an OC Aristocrat on the way, a 34' that should be here tomorrow. Several people have told me it is their favorite shaving OC razor of all time. Of course, razors are such personal things it's hard to tell.

I too have several variations of the NEW. I like the short comb NEW very much, but the English made NEW's are smoother, at least the raised flat bottom that I'm currently test driving. I have a couple of other English NEW's on the way as well.

I'll be interested to hear what your thoughts are on the Sheraton and the Aristocrat are. Which Aristocrat do you have coming? American? English? Rhodium? Gold? Please make sure to share and take pictures when you get them.

Here's the seller's picture, it is missing the plating on the handle but the price was right.

If I like it I may get it plated.

Mildest OC - Merkur 1904. I doubt I could cut myself with this if I tried. Irritated my skin, though, and didn't shave well at all. Others swear that it works beautifully.

Mild OC - Goodwill/Old Type? Basing this on my Goodwill which looks like a modified Old Type. Good, mild enough for scalp shaving. Not as nice as a British New for effectiveness, in my humble opinion.

Moderate OC - US or British News, short or long comb - I find British ones to be smoother-friendlier than US versions, and the US short comb friendlier than the long comb. All shave very effectively. My favorite DE razors.

Aggressive OC - Cadet/Fatip. I found the Cadet to be tricker than the News and after 1 shave decided it wasn't worth switching from my News. Many people swear by either of these.

Very aggressive OC - R41, 2013 version. Shaves very closely for me (as closely as my News), more tendency to bite if not mindful.

"The devil's razor" - R41, 2011 version. I have not tried this. I prefer my blood to remain inside of me. I have heard that it is either the best razor in existence for people who love aggressive razors, or it is the shaving equivalent of being mauled by dozens of Rottweilers. Rumors abound of people losing a pint of blood simply by being in the same house as one. Upon receiving one as a present, the Prince of Darkness said, and I quote, "You've got to be kidding me."

I may have exaggerated slightly for effect. You have been warned! :001_cool:

I have all three razors the OP references. All three give great shaves. The Sheraton is, for me the least smooth of the bunch. The NEW LC would be my favorite razor as it is very smooth and comfortable (I prefer my NEW LC over my NEW SC), but my '34 Aristocrat is simply the best razor I have ever used, bar none. It shaves very closely and yet is super smooth. It actually feels like getting a BBS from a piece of velvet. I don't know how they did it, but, at least for me, it doesn't get any better than the 'Crat.

I don't have a '34 Aristocrat, but I do have a Senator, a Sheraton, and a British #15 Aristocrat. My experience is not the same as Shutterbug. I found the Sheraton to be smooth and effective. The Senator was similar, but not quite as good. The #15 was a little too mild for me. Comfortable, but not BBS.
