Cade Smell-a-like

I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but does anyone know of a cologne that smells like Cade? I've done a few searches and couldn't dig anything up, but I love the scent so I was hoping someone might have some ideas! Thanks!

A lot of B+Bers have asked this question, myself included. There have been a couple different suggestions, but no real winners yet.

If any of the independent vendors here decide to try out a "Cade-like" splash, I think a whole bunch of us will line up.

I find that the D.R. Harris Marlborough smells quite a bit like the CADE shaving soap. Maybe give that one a shot, you should be able to get a sample of it without too much trouble.

This was my first thought as well. I have the Marlborough soap and a/s and used up a bottle of the Cade aftershave. To me, the Marlborough is nearly a dead ringer for it. Same general price as well though I think Harris a/s and edt cost a bit more than the old Cade splash did at $28 per bottle. I think I paid Charles something like $32 per bottle for the Harris but I would have to verify that. Anyway, the Harris is close enough to suffice I think.

Regards, Todd

I found a store with Jack Black Black Mark and have some on right now. It's a nice scent, but, to my nose, not anything like Cade. Maybe it'll turn woodsier in a couple more hours. I'll have to keep an eye out for the other suggestions!

Honestly, I think I've tried every scent suggested (here + in past threads) and the only one that I've found really similar has been DRH Marlborough, with the caveat that Marl. has a pronounced smokey note (some guys don't like this, but I do.)

This isn't to say the suggestions aren't good fragrances on their own (I think Creed's BdG is better than most of their more popular ones) they're just not really viable Cade subs.

Thanks for the tip. The description of Marlborough sure does sound similar to Cade. I took a sniff of Creed BdG and, although I didn't spray it on my wrist, it smelled like a nice, fairly subtle scent.

Does anyone have any idea where to obtain a sample of Marlborough? I have looked in the usual places suggested for decants, but can't seem to find any of the D.R. Harris scents. I'm going to try writing D.R. Harris an e-mail, although it doesn't sound like that usually works too well.

If you plan on ordering anything from West Coast Shaving (great vendor) and ask if you can try a sample of the Marlborough cologne, they've been really good at things like that IMO.

The catch would be to specify the cologne. The other Marlborough products are really nice, but the edt will give you the best idea of the scent.

I didn't have a need to order anything, but might consider just ordering blindly and trying to sell it here if I hate it that much...

A question as a cologne newbie...for a point of reference in trying to understand what you mean by smokey, since I know what vetyver smells like, would you say that vetyver has a smokey aspect to it?

Also, has anyone tried L'Occitane Cedar?

I have tried L'Occitane Cedre...it was too feminine for me, but some folks like it.

Some Vetiver's are smoky--L'Occitane's Vetyver is one--because of the notes added to it. In L'Occitane's case they combined vetiver with a good dose of incense, and it works nicely.

DRH Marlborough is a little more blunt about their smokiness. One member described it as an ashtray, another like your shirt after being in a bar with a bunch of smokers. I can't refute those comments because they're not far off, but for some reason with the sandalwood and cedar I like it.

I can say, if you get it and don't like it, it would probably go pretty fast on b/s/t (as long as you have enough time and posts by then.)

Good luck!
