Cade Aluminum Bowl Height

Can someone who has the L'Occitane Aluminum bowl for the shaving soap tell me the height of the bowl? I am having a small shave den shelf custom made, and I want to make sure that bowl will fit in case I do get my hands on one (assuming the rumors of it being discontinued prove to be false). Thanks!

I would suggest you to skip this bowl. It is nice, looks cool, but my experience is that it makes, otherwise lovely smelling soap, smell like... aluminum or whatever metal the bowl is made from. Ever since I put the soap in plastic container (before that had to wash it thoroughly to wash out the smell), it is nice, as should be.

I think the bowl is very nice...not sure it is worth the 28 dollars, but it is one of the best looking bowls.

I bought mine for $19 on their outlet

I had to run and sniff the soap, but I can't smell anything metallic. I haven't got a super-sensitive nose though.

Early bowls were apparently bare aluminum...current ones anodized. That may be the issue as early ones likely corroded easily.

the cade bowl is handsome and overpriced. unnecessary yet functional

i fought it for a while but ultimately gave in. the way i look at it, if you divide the price of the bowl ($28) by the number of years i intend to use it, the cost becomes nominal.

i haven't noticed a strong aluminum smell. mine still smells like juniper...

Yes, the older ones corrode a bit. I've had one for several years and clean it up with 0000 steel wool and Brasso now and then. I haven't noticed any smell imparted by the bowl, however.

When word of its possible demise reached my ears I popped into my local store to pick up a spare puck while they were still going. Love that soap.

In Australia the soap is priced at $20 and the bowl was $30. I stood around for a few seconds trying to decide if it was worth another $10 for the bowl, since it does look quite nice. That was when I realised that the $30 bowl is EMPTY!

Does anybody else find that insulting, that they expect you to pay that much for the little house to keep your small puck of soap that you already paid $20 for? Or am I just tight?

Tight I may be, but it is still a rip. I just jammed the soap into an old spice mug. Take that, Frenchy. :sneaky2:

The bowl is nice and looks cool, but it is expensive.
Here in Portugal, the soap costs €10,50 and the empty bowl costs €25,50.

I usually buy the soap and squeeze it into some cheap pyrex bowl.

Is the OP looking for the height of the new or old bowl?

I have the old bowl at home. I've never noticed a metallic smell, and I have a pretty sensitive nose.

Indeed, indeed, i confirm oversaturn words...Just an overpriced bowl. What for?! :001_huh:

The bowl makes for a very nice ding dong bell - it certainly sounds like one when you take the lid off, put it on the counter and then back on the bowl.

Expensive, a pain to keep clean, but wow it does look good on the counter next to one of those new all stainless Feather razors. And no metal smell I can detect from mine, just strong Cade aroma.

I had to make the same decision and I've decided to buy it. I don't mind having one nice looking bowl to keep my current soap in. At the moment it has Tabac in it. I'm sure that eventually it will have CADE in it.

Is the OP looking for the height of the new or old bowl?

I was thinking of the bowl that is currently available in the L'Occitane stores as I plan to buy it this summer.

Although I'm generally pretty frugal, I don't mind spending on luxury items (watches, shave supplies, etc.), so the price of this bowl doesn't hinder me, and if I'm patient I'll get it for free anyway.

Thanks for all the input.
