What's new

C.V. Heljestrand Kindal

I had been searching for one of these Swedish made Single Edge razors for a while, found one but the price was too high, then it came down a bit and was still too high, finally it was reduced a second time and the price was right for me so I bought it. I have some Swedish blood from my grandmother and was seeking out a DE and SE from the country, I found a Swing razor (DE) and now I found the Kindal (SE) from Sweden. This was originally a 7-day set and has the wedge blades, the wedge blades are mixed condition, some useable and others not, I don't plan on using them, I was delighted to find that the razor is suitable to be used with modern SE blades, I have been using Ted Pella blades with great results. The razor looks intimidating but shaves efficiently, it doesn't feel like it is going to bite but it feels like too much pressure will easily leave burn. I have been using it for 2 pass shaves, WTG then XTG. It is very solid and heavy. Here are some pictures, I have seen several posts of these in the past but they don't seem to come up all that often, especially by people actually shaving with them.

Thats a beautiful razor and has been on my to get list for some time, but they are as rare as hens teeth.
Do try the wedge blades as i like mine a lot and they work very well in my other razors.

That's a really attractive razor. Is the strop in the set the original? Even it looks like it's in pretty good shape.

I'll defer to some of the guys here that are really into strops that will hopefully have more information, but the bit I've read cautions to be very conservative with any oiling as it can clog up the pores of the strop and impede the function of it. I remember reading that many just give a strop a rub with the palm of their hand, as the natural oil in our skin is fine to condition leather and the tiny amount of it present won't be in danger of over saturating the leather. I think pure neatsfoot oil is considered the best for reconditioning a strop if it's kinda haggard, but even then it's a matter of a careful drop or two of it every few years.

Thanks, I will investigate this a bit more, it could definitely use some oil but I just have it hanging in the cave looking cool for now, I don't know if I will ever use it but it is a nice addition however.

I love mine. My strop is original, and was both heavily used and oiled, back in the day. Still debating replacing the leather, as I've done with my Wilkinson sword Dunhills (matching white & black handle sets):thumbup1:. I would use it...

I use mine with Ted Pella blades, not the Wedge blades that came with it, which blades are you using with yours?
I tried the handle on my Gem Junior Bar and it fits well, I haven't shaved with that combo yet but it should be nice with the added weight.

Ah, the OEM wedgies!:wink2: I like the standard SE shave, but it lacks the "finesse" (for lack of a better term) of a honed and stropped wedge. If I'm really pressed for time, I'll drop a Gem blade into my CV or Wilkinson Empire, but otherwise, I like to enjoy the full experience.

Something you can do to maintain the exterior of your case is use neutral shoe cream, gently rubbed in, followed by neutral shoe wax, buffed with a terry cloth towel.

Thanks for the tips and insights, I will have to get the wedge blades honed one day and give them a whirl.

Wow, that's a beauty. Seven day set and everything! Even if you don't use them, it's cool to have the strop and that they are all there. Thanks for sharing the photos Erik! Enjoy!

Thanks, I agree, it is a nice set to admire, the blades are hit and miss, some would turn out nice when honed but others are chipped too much to be used. I hung up the strop in the shave cave to add to the atmosphere.

Very nice Taco, I got myself one of those sets a while ago myself, It came with all the blades Minus the Strop, I am missing the strop. but i think mine came with 6 or 7 Blades and Also most blades came with a blade Sleeve. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...lid-Leather-Catcher-lots-of-pics-o)?highlight=

They are Beautiful Sets, Mine is silver plated, Is yours Silver plates as well ? Also They are Seriously Solid Made, Even the Head of the Razor is Solid and Thick . It is The Most Solid SE in my Collection, Next to my Streamline or Gem Jewel.

Congrats on such a Beautiful set. Gotta love it :biggrin1:

WOW nice razor.

Thank you, I am happy that it isn't just a looker, it shaves nice too.

Thank you, congratulations on your set as well, very nice! I am unsure of the plating but the razor is definitely the most solid SE I own as well, it is built to last. It was funny in your review of how solid your razor is that you mentioned you could probably use it to scoop up frozen ice cream , funny but true

Seriously its that Strong and Solid that you can use it as an ice Cream Scooper, Its probably Brass, But Since the Metal is so Thick it Feels like Steel ?
