C. O. Bigelow Black

I went to Bath and Body Works today to pick up a tube of C O Bigelow shaving cream (which is awesome, BTW). In the same section they had their colognes as well. I tried a tester of C O Bigelow Black, and it was freakin awesome! Relatively inexpensive, works well with my body chemistry, and smells great. Anybody else tried it?

I have not tried the Bigelow Black, but I am a big fan of the Bath and Body Works Signature Men's Collection. When they are on BOGO (buy one get one free) they are a great deal at a mere $15 each for 3.4oz. I especially like their Oak cologne.

The Signature Men's Collection has replaced the Bigelow line in some Bath and Body Works stores, as the scents of the two lines are somewhat duplicated (Bigelow Blue being much like Signature Ocean for example).

I picked up a tube of C.O. Bigelow cream from B&BW a couple weeks back and remember sniffing a few of their testers, but dont really remember the scents. I am curious however if the scent of their green cologne is the same as Proraso's aftershave? I just got some Proraso AS last night and sniffing it, I think it was similair to some of the colognes from B&BW

I was wondering what the general consensus was on the Bigelow colognes were, I got the deodorant body spray in the black and I like it as well.
I haven't tried any of the colognes, besides a quick spray in the store, as I already had some on yesterday, but I plan on at least trying both the black and white kinds.

Best thing to do is test on scent on one wrist and one on the other, and walk around the mall a while. Once it really mixes with your body chemistry well, you'll know if its for you or not. Yesterday was really blazing hot and it only took a few minutes for me to get sweaty and then the scent of the cologne really came out. It's got a really fresh, light scent that isn't overpowering like many colognes, I guess that's why I like it. I never was one for the really oily strong fragrances.

The black was good but i prefer the white! it had more of a musk to it i thought. good choice either way.

I love the black. To my nose it smells great on me from the off and gets better and better as time passes. I had seen some reviews complaining the scent is short lived but that's not the case with my body chemistry. Love the price also.

It mellows out a lot after about 3-4 hours, but that isn't too much of a problem for me. IMHO, the whole point of a subtle, mellowing scent is to initially draw in SWMBO, and stay nice and close and then the mild fragrance is a good thing!
You have no idea how many times I've noticed a guy with overpowering cologne and all the women laugh and roll their eyes. Many women prefer a fresh, clean, or at least more natural (woodsy?) scent, but YMMV.

It is interesting that you say this, because Bigelow black is actually quite a potent and strong fragrance. I wore it several times before returning it. If you are smelling someone with overpowering cologne, it is probably because they are simply wearing to much. If you use too many sprays of Bigelow black, you will get the same effect.

Hm, I normally just use a spray on each side of the neck. Some kinds I've used before, even a tiny bit is really strong. I guess everyone's nose is just different.

I tried them when I first went in there and tried a tube of the shave cream. I couldn't stand the smell of either the black or green but I did like the white and the blue. Since they were 3 for 2 I got a big tube of the shave cream and decided to try a bottle of the white cologne and the white skin moisturizer. I got home & tried the skin moisturizer (very dry skin on my elbows) and I don't know if the cream smells differently on purpose, if it had gone bad or what but this stuff made me want to vomit. I tried letting it sit hoping it was just something in the lotion that would go away once it had absorbed into my skin but no such luck. I was stuck with it for HOURS, I couldn't even wash it off. I ended up returning both the lotion and the cologne because while the cologne didn't have that horrible smell, the scent still triggered the memory of that horrible horrible smell. They let me exchange both for 2 more tubes of the shave cream and refunded me the difference. So the story did have a happy ending, but I still don't think I could bring myself to try them again which is a shame because I really do enjoy the shave cream.

You should try this one as well.......

I am pretty sure they do not carry it in the stores. I returned this one too as none of them worked for me. But I thought this one was the best. If you like the Black bottle, I am pretty sure you will like this one as well. You can return anything to the store if you end up not liking it.....so you may want to give it a shot.

The Black Elixir reminds me of Burberry London. Very musky with hints of tabacco, bergamot, and cinnamon. It's a great frangrance for the late fall/winter months. Elixir white IMO is more of a late spring/summer fragrance. Very citrusy, with a hint of sweetness. I actually like both very much.

Yeah, next time I go there, I'll have to do some serious testing to find out what works for me.

Or, like I said, you can return them even if you use them. Buy them all, wear them at your leisure, and return whichever ones don't work out. But again, I am pretty sure the Black Pepper and Elixir Gold are only available online (can still return in store). The Elixir Gold smelled like cedar moth balls in my opinion. It is a heavy, cedar based cent.

I had a bottle of CO Bigelow Black shave cream and I really liked it - any idea of a cream or soap with a similar scent that I could use to replace it?
(Since it seems that BBW doesn't sell it as a shave cream anymore.)

Many thanks!
