C.O. Bigelow Bay Rum?

My mother works for a company that manufactures lotions and creams for various companies (bath and body works, body shop, victoria's secret, sephora, etc.), and a few years ago she gave me a bottle of C.O. Bigelow Bay Rum aftershave. It sat unused for about a year until I finally tried it (I didn't use aftershave at that time). I started using it, and my girlfriend loves the scent, so I kept at it. I am finally running out, so it's time to buy more.

Now, since I have never used another aftershave, I have no idea if this stuff is treating my skin nicely. I've read the reviews of other C.O. Bigelow aftershaves, which seem positive, but I can't find a review of this one. It costs a bit more, about $18 a bottle. Is it worth it? Or would I be better served by trying something new (and possibly cheaper)???

I have no experience with the C.O. Bigelow Bay Rum, but I really enjoy the scent of the Ogallala Bay Rum Aftershave:

Buy Ogallala Bay Rum

I have the Bay Rum Limes and Peppercorns, but they also make a straight Bay Rum, and a Sandalwood Bay Rum as well.

The Bigelow Bay Rum AS that I'm familiar with is a balm. I like it very much, it is soothing, not greasy and smells great. If you want the same sort of balm sans the scent, the Bigelow #1200 is nice. If you want the scent by itself, the Bigelow Bay Rum cologne is a winner.

I like the Burt's Bees also, although it has a pine note to it that I wasn't expecting.

For a bay rum splash, it's hard to beat Pinaud Clubman. The Ogallala is also nice.

The main complaint I have with all the Bay Rum products mentioned is the fleeting nature of the scent. The Bigelow cologne is the lasts the longest for me, and it's pretty much gone by lunchtime. All the others barely survive my short commute.

I think that the Bigelow Bay Rum AS balm and cologne are a good one-two punch. It is certainly a little pricier than other similar products, but it isn't out-of-the-world expensive. And there's still enough room on the shelf for a bottle of Pinaud Bay Rum aftershave.

The question is--is it still in production? Bigelow's web site lists both the after shave and cologne, and even has the body wash. However, Bath and Body Works only has the AS. I like the cologne a lot, but I don't know if I'm going to replace the one that I have if I have to mail order a bottle from Bigelow. Couldn't Bath and Body Works drop one of their endless number of hideous tropical flower scented lotions and clear some space on the counter for these nice bay rums?

It is definitely still in production; the Garden State Mall in Paramus (about 30 minutes from me) has a C.O. Bigelow store, and I saw it there (along with the cologne). So, for me, it is a matter of making the drive out to the mall to get it...or, of course, ordering it online and waiting for it to show up. But, what fun is that???

Thanks for the responses. I've always liked this aftershave, and it's good to know I'm not wasting my money...and hey, my first bottle was free, so if I buy a second at $18, that's like spending $9 a bottle, right???

That's a big +1. My local B&BW doesn't carry anything manly anymore. Not a drop of Bigelow in the whole store.

Bigelow Bay Rum AS balm is good, good stuff. I typically prefer ASBs to be frangrance free, but this stuff smells so good and works so well I make an exception.

The B&BW near me is almost similar. It is reduced to a display almost behind the registers. If I had not been adamant to continue looking, I would have left annoyed that I couldn't find the C.O. Bigelow shaving cream!

+1
I use the ASB and the cologne. Those together seem to last all day for me.

Me too.

It is irritating to see how Bath and Body Works keeps shifting their inventory. The ones near me carry the color Bigelow ranges, as well as their current lemon and menthol/mint stuff. They also have the Bigelow/Proraso cream, both sizes. All of the rest of the merchandise changes so much that it looks like they're just buying lots of misc. fruity fragrances and lotions and throwing 'em out on tables. They're selection changes so fast that I can't imagine that they're even trying to build brand loyalty. My daughter bought a couple of fragrances from there and they were so awful that their strategy is probably well founded. Since most of the satellite Bigelow stores have closed, it's unfortunate that they don't want to push their Bigelow stuff a little more.

It's very disheartening, because even when my store carried the full range of CO B. products, it always seemed like they were hand-me-downs from another store. The packages were always torn or partially crushed or they would be affixed with coupons on the back for mail-in rebates that expired two or three years ago. I suspect that last bottle of Bay Rum I bought there was really, really old. Now they don't even carry it.

+1.5 I love this stuff. It's great. Their Bay Rum & Sandalwood is my favorite bay rum product, hands down. It's a creamy sandalwood scent that goes ridiculously well with the rum. This reminds me that I have to order some more....

I was at Bath & Body Works @ the West Edmonton Mall location today, and the only shave product they were carrying was the 4 coloured shave gels. No aftershaves whatsoever

So basically all this store was reduced to was a hand soap & body lotion/moisturiser store. The clerk said they are expecting a face line in September/October.
What that means, is any ones guess at this point.

I was looking forward to trying the Bayrum A/S

I got the AS balm when it was on closeout...a B&B member scored it for me! Thanks to TOB9595.

The cologne was ordered two-fer-one during an on line sale...I really like the stuff, and I'm glad I got two bottles.

In fact, since I just baked a batch of molasses spice cookies, the Bigelow bay rum goes on tonight before bed.:w00t:

Guess I'm lucky my local mall carries most of the Bigelow stuff in the B&BWs.... I asked them if they had any Lucky Tiger products which are on their website and they had no clue what I was talking about...
