What's new

burt's bees shaving soap

i'm still relatively new here and to the world of de shaving. i got the vdh kit at walmart which i think is great. i've been getting pain free and irritation free shaves for the past 5 days since i started...and i'm still using a cartridge blade.
anyway...i saw burt's bees shaving soap online. i'm wondering if anyone has used it and what you thought of it. i use his lip balm all the time and wouldn't dare think of using anything else. but juse because the lip balm is great doesn't mean the shaving soap will be great.
i know about ymmv, but if most people say no, then i won't bother. if most people say yes, i'll be willing to give it a try. and...
if most people say i don't know, then i'll get it when i get it if i get it. :biggrin1:

If you mean the Burt's Bees Bay Rum shave soap then yes, you might want to stay away from it. It is one of the BEST smelling bay rum soaps you'll ever experience but it has very poor slickness and cushion for shaving.

But--the Burt's Bees Bay Rum Body Bar has the same scent and is an excellent soap for overall showering. Comparing the two I think the shave soap and body bar are the same but just poured into different molds.

I highly recommend the body bar. The scent is outta-this-world!!

cheers,

Marty E.

I used it for a while. :thumbdown Bought the brush, mug & soap together. I hated the brush! It shed real bad. Used the soap for a good while though. It was Bay Rum but the Bay Rum scent didn't last very long. It started to smell more like soap then Bay Rum! I used it with my fusion razor & I soaped on the puck in the same mug. Now I know about all the better soaps that are out there so I wouldn't buy it again. I feel there are far to many better soaps out there to pick from. I did like the Mug so that is what I kept. I didn't care for their Shaving cream also.
Burt's Bees makes some fine products but I feel shaving supplies are not one of them...

I tried BB Bay Rum puck soap and ended up using it in the shower. It made a pretty good bath soap, but I would not use it to make shaving lather.

The stuff gets mixed reviews. I looking into it when I bought my brother the gift set. People on this board aren't thrilled by it but elsewhere people swear by it. As always YMMV

People swear by it elsewhere, because they don't know any better. They lack the knowledge of what a good shaving lather should look like, and thus are willing to accept the imperfect lather, since they don't know any different.

Amazon reviews especially fall into this category, there are DE razors with reviews posted by people who clearly don't understand even the basics of how the razor is supposed to operate: one thought having a razor blade stick out on both sides meant the razor was broken!!!!:eek::lol::lol:

Sorry for bringing up an old post, but didn't want to start another on the same topic...

I tried my BB Bay Rum shave soap for the first time today (had it for quite a while but held off due to reviews.) I have to say, I was happy with the product.

Granted it didn't create any super lather, but it was sufficient enough for me. And while there wasn't a whole lot of lather, the lather it did produce, provided a great amount of slickness/protection. I'd say it's almost like a latherless cream, that happens to lather a bit.

Didn't provide the closest shave because it may be almost too slick and the blade slides right over it, but I would recommend it for people with sensitive skin since that reduces blade drag.

Plus, the smell alone makes up for some of the lack of lather for me.

Though most other folks don't appear to be real fond of BB's Bay Rum shaving soap, I rather like it. Admittedly, it's different, but I use it fairly regularly, alternating with other soaps. I even enjoy using Williams' on occasion, just for the sake of nostalgia. But I've been wet shaving for almost 45 years, so I've come to enjoy variety -- I use expensive, triple-milled soaps, right along with the other, less-expensive stuff. During my years of wet-shaving, there's not much I haven't tried, and with some of the soaps/creams it's just a matter of figuring out how to get the most out of them. My advice is to try everything you can -- that's how to best learn what YOU like!
