Brushless Cream for Christmas Gift

I am looking for a nice, moderately priced shaving cream to give my father-in-law for Christmas. I don't believe he has a brush, so I am looking for a cream that does not require a brush. I was thinking something along the lines of T&H, but I don't know if you can use T&H without a brush.

He is a pretty sophisticated guy, so I am looking for something better than just an ordinary shave cream. T&H would be perfect if it can be used without a brush. Any suggestions?

You can use just about any shaving cream without a brush. I'd say go for the Truefitt and Hill! It's great stuff. Remember to use the BB10 discount code when you check out!

Why not just buy him an Omega Boar brush? They are great quality, and only around $10-$15. Even if some creams can be used brushless, the results are far superior with a brush. :thumbup1:

Pacific Shaving Company shave cream. This is really nice stuff, and it smells good, too.

That or Nancy Boy, if he can handle the name.

I stand by my original suggestion. If the guy would rather not use a brush then getting him a brush would just mean it's going to sit around unused. A tube of Truefitt and Hill, with the discount, is $16.80. I'd say go for it. Leave the "getting a brush" decision up to him. Perhaps you could suggest looking into getting a brush, but if you still want a "modestly priced" gift, including a brush means you'll have to cheap out on a cream.

Proraso works great brushless and is widely available on the web. The same stuff is sold under the Bigelow name at Bath and Body Works (at a mall near you). I get a closer shave with Nancy Boy but you can't go wrong with either. Proraso has a light menthol smell; Nancy Boy is more floral. I don't think either would leave a detectable scent on the user. I haven't tried T&H so I can't compare.

I applaud you for sticking to your guns. But I have a question to ask: Have you ever used T&H brushless? I haven't, but when I used Trumper's that way it was vastly inferior to the results I get with a brush. My PERSONAL experience has been that lathering creams do much better lathered.

That's why I suggested Pacific Shave Company shaving cream, because it was actually designed to be used brushless, and it's a nice cream.

If you get good results with T&H brushless, then your suggestion is a good one, and I'd like to know how you did it, because lathering creams just don't work well for me when I try to use them brushless (when travelling).

+1 for C.O. Bigelow at Bath and Body works.... I know many men who love this stuff even though they don't use a brush with it.

Whenever I've used a "brush" cream brushless, I've found good results with using more creW than I would use with a brush, T&H included. That being said, it DOES use more product. I agree that using a brush would be favorable, but it IS possible to use it brushless with good results. :thumbup1:

I believe I am going to get the T&H shave cream and let him know he can use it with or without a brush, but a brush may improve the performance. I don't wan't to send him a brush assuming he wants to shave like I do. This is my father-in-law and I don't want to appear to be giving a man 35+ years my senior shaving advice. I just want to send him a nice shaving cream that he can use.

I also like the fact the T&H has been around for a long time and has a very long history that I can tell him about. According to the T&H website, Sir Winston Churchill was a fan of the Grafton scent. I think he would find it interesting that he is enjoying the same scent for shaving that a prominent historical figure enjoyed.

After I posted my thread, I found the following thread that was very helpful in my decision - http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=116811.

orchestrion - what vendor are you referring to in your posts? I know of vendors that sell T&H for $18.90 after the B&B discount. What vendor has it for $16.80 after the B&B discount?

I thank everyone for their help. It is so nice to have a forum where one can ask a question and get a variety of responses to consider.

I don't know that 'buying him a brush' is equivalent to 'telling him how to shave'.
If that were the case, wouldn't every gift kind of be misinterpreted?
