I don't remember where I saw this, but here's a cheap, readily available, DIY scuttle. It's not big enough to use for building lather, but if you face-lather, this can't be beat for parking a shave brush and keeping it piping hot. The insert is large enough to easily accomodate any size brush.
These are Corningware items readily available at Home Goods, K-mart, Target, Wallyworld, Amazon, and other housewares stores. Since they're stoneware they retain heat very well.
First is the 20oz covered soup mug. Cost < $6. The insert is a Corningware 7oz Ramekin, and I bought mine for < $4, so the total was under $10.
