A search should reveal many "brush restoration" threads here, and a few on turning handles from hardwood stock. One source for knots is http://www.thegoldennib.com/
Check out The Golden Nib.Com. They have all the knots that you would want to use in making a new brush and the prices are really great as well. They have a tutorial on their site showing how to make a handle and set the knot for your new brush. Hope this helps and good luck with your project. Bernd at Shavemac sells knots if you ask (not cheap, but....shavemac!). I've got one coming in the mail.
