What's new

British Monarch

Among the razors that I recently acquired was what I believe to be an Open Comb MONARCH and the case shows Monarch British Made with a coat of arms with a crown on top held up by two Lions. Has anyone had any experience shaving with this razor? It seems to be very well made with a nice heft and good knurling. The tto is slightly larger in diameter than the rest of the handle.

From what I have read this Monarch is the British version of the 1919 Big Fellow which was the last Old Type Style before Gillette converted to the New and is supposed to be an absolute dream to shave with especially for heavier beards.

Here are a couple of additional pictures of the Monarch; the heft gives it a nice smooth cut through the stubble. The end is hollow and magnifies the sound so that you hear a lot of feedback as you are shaving. After shaving with it this morning, it seems to be aggressive.

Shaved with the MONARCH MADE IN BRITAIN again this morning and I am amazed at the quality of the razor at a time when most of these razors were cracking or simply not well made. While I have not found out anything about the razor, it has a quality about it that is remarkable. Maybe it was in the WW I and WW II time period where a lot of quality items disappeared in the war effort.

Thanks Sledgehammer and I am sure it is a bit frigid in Canada right now. If only I could find out more about the Monarch, it would be interesting. I shaved with it again this morning.
