Breaking DE Blades in half

Can someone show me a clear way to do it to ensure even breakage and not affecting the cutting edge. Also not cutting myself!

Thanks

I've never had a problem breaking DE blade in half for use in a shavette. Begin by gripping the ends with the index finger and thumb. Start folding the blade by pressing with your thumb and it should bend in the centre, at some point point the blade will snap in half. Always do the breaking with the blade wrapping paper or envelope. If you are not sure of this approach, you can grip a blade in the index finger and thumb of one hand and fold it around the pinky finger of the other hand. Again, always do the breaking with the blade wrapping paper or envelope.

If you are still unsure, hold the blade in both hands with your fingers and thumbs. Place one side the blade flat on a surface, with the steepest angle facing you. Make sure you are still holding on to one side. Fold it over by pressing your thumbs in the centre of the blade and pulling with your index fingers. As usual, always do the breaking with the blade wrapping paper or envelope.

Why do you need to break the blade? No matter which way you go there is going to be some element of risk of cutting yourself.

when you say grab the ends you mean the cutting edges or the far ends?
Yes, grab the far ends. There is never a completely safe way of doing a break but you can minimize the risk. I've never (knock on wood) cut myself breaking a blade in half. ALWAYS do the breaking in the blade's wrapper.

I have an old pair of scissors that I use to snip them in half before I remove the blade wrapper.

Works like a charm!

You could use a towel and brake blade in half!

Make sure it still has the wrapping!

Hope that works for you!

Bingo, place the blade in a washcloth or hand towel.

I used to break them into quarters (both directions) and wrapped them up in T.P. to dispose of them. Now I use a sharps container, but they break very easily.
