Brand New Simpson Brush Shedding like Crazy

A little over two weeks ago, I bought a Simpson Eagle 2 brush from Pasteur Pharmacy in NYC (great shop by the way). Every time I have used it over the last two weeks it has shed 8-10 hairs while creating the lather and while applying it to my face. The first few days I figured it was just because it was new, but it has continued. Is that normal for a Simpson? Do I need to give another week or so? Or, is this just a defective brush?

I would continue to use it regularly for another 2 weeks. If it keeps losing hair at that rate, I would return it.

8-10 hairs per shave for two weeks sounds very excessive. I bought an Emperor 2 and it dropped at least 1-2 hairs per shave for the first week. A time or two during the first week, it lost about 3-5. After the first week, it has gradually subsided. It was loosing about 1 or 2 hairs every week and a half or so. But is has completely subsided by this point. When I was wondering if I might have a shedder, I contacted the vendor and they recommended the process outlined on this page :http://www.vintagebladesllc.com/shaving.htm#Jims_Miscellaneous_Ramblings_Wet_Shaving . The pertinent section is at the bottom of the first section of the page under the heading 'My brush is loosing hairs. Is this a problem?' It sounds to me like your brush is shedding excessively, but I would give this process a try before trying to return it.

That sucks. I get upset with losing 2-3 hairs per shave, 8-10 sounds too much. If it doesn't slow down in the next shave or two definitely take it back. Wouldn't hurt to contact the retailer and explain what is going on, they may be selling a bad batch and will know about the problem already.

This is Sooooo subjective. I recommend that when you receive a new brush after a thorough shampoo (defunking exercise) and when the brush has dried completely that you (vigorously) bat the hair back and forth across your palm to knock out any hairs that were overlooked by the dressers.. That not withstanding, after a few weeks (assuming you use the brush daily), you should see only the occasional dropper.

I do this with all my brushes after each use and not necessarily to get rid of loose hairs - it just feels good :blushing::lol:
