Brand new 1973 Tech; use it or not?

I recently acquired a brand new 1973 Tech with two knurled aluminum handles and a small case. I paid $100 for it on eBay and I am wondering if I should use it or keep it new as a collectible item. I love my EJ89 so I really have no reason to use the Tech other than curiosity about how fantastic everyone says it is.

If it is still in the blister pack I would say you paid $80 for the packaging and $20 for the razor. Take the razor out of the packaging and you will lose most of your purchase price.

If it is just a loose razor (un-packaged) go ahead and have fun.

If you just want to try a tech they come up on BST quite often for $10-20 as there were several million made over a span of 41 years (1938-1979).

I have 4 Tech razors, 2 custom and 2 stock Gillette models.

If you're curious about the way a Tech shaves, there's an easy answer -- pick up a user grade version on the BST for $10. Problem solved.

This one was loose but packaged in a travel case with a NIB Gillette blade. I have no question that I overpaid and that's ok. Since it was not in a sealed package, I went ahead and gave it a go... it's ok but it's not any smoother or closer than my EJ89. I'll take this as a loss and move on. I'll just keep it for keepsake and throw it in the safe with a few other collectible items I have acquired over the years.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am a collector of other items but never owned a collector razor before. I did use it this morning and did not find it any better than the EJ89 (if at all) so I'm sticking to the EJ89 and I'll just put the Tech in my safe with a few other things I have. Maybe one day I'll use it but for now I'm sticking to the EJ89... I love everything about it.

Thanks Gents.
