Bow Ties

Just curious. How many of you like or wear bow ties. Lately, I'm appreciating them more. Guess, I'm getting bored of using and seeing straight ties. I prefer the way they look when worn with a v-neck sweater, vest or three piece suit, otherwise it think they look a bit off. Unless, of course, they worn with a tuxedo. What do you think?

I have definitely warmed up to them the last half dozen years or so. One gentleman posted a link here a few months ago to Ellies bow ties. She seems to make some nice ties. I had never thought about a bow tie being worn with a sport jacket and slacks as maybe being off a bit. I am unsure the etiquette concerning bow ties. Can someone clarify this a bit? Anyroad, I have become fond of them and intend to buy a few and give them a go.

Regards, Todd

Bowties are wonderful....

Your grandfather, great grandfather and great, great grandfather wore them,... there's a reason,... they look good.

Maybe not popular now, but then again you have to put things into perspective,... Today your average kid wears pajamas out to dinner and keeps the plastic tags on his r her baseball cap and thinks its "cool",... while dad tried to dress like the kids with his new "Tims" and football jersey,... you know, to be "cool",...

While before hip hop and lady gaga your son looked up to you and tried to be "more like Dad" rather than Dad trying to be more like his son!

I used to wear them when I was in my mid to late 20s (believe it or not) and actually got a lot of compliments. In the past few years, though, I've put on a bit of weight, and they just don't look right any more. I guess that's reason no. 563 why I should lose weight.

Honestly, If I could tie them, I would wear them - if they cost the same as regular ties.

Hell to the Yes I wear bow ties!! I love them bc they are different and, everybody always notices them, and u get a ton of compliments from everybody! I see a few other people wearing them as well, I dont think that there out of fashion at all, they are just not as main stream as a regular tie. I wear them all the time with just a button down oxford in the summer, or with a blazer, nothing awkward, just pure, southern, sophisticated style!

I certainly do war them. I am in my mid 20's and have recently become addicted to them (BTAD). I wife, has yet to truly appreciate them but the people that I come in contact with love them and I get compliments daily. They are making a come back so I you have some vintage ones lying around, you should try to sell them and make a buck.

I, too, have worn bow ties for years. One reason for not wearing them is that some may consider the wearer a bit eccentric.

So what's wrong with that?

It's a definite challenge at first,.. but its like tying a common necktie,... you try, try try,... and then you,... tie, tie, tie!

I have tricks I use when I tie mine, just to make it a little easier,.. for me at least!!:001_rolle

I'm 25 and still quite juvenille looking. I'm sure a bowtie would make me look even younger (like not old enough to drive a car younger)

I wore a bowtie for my wedding. Determined not to wear a pre-tied but to tie my own, and not nowing how in the least, I got a bowtie, looked at the instructions that came with it, and started tying. I'd practice every night. At first it was pathetic, but slowly improved. By the time my wedding came around, I was the best dressed guy out there. :thumbup1:

Oh dear Lord!,.. don't be so insecure,.. It's a bowtie man!

... you're not suckin' on a great big lolliepop singin' Mary Poppins show tunes are ya?

Go get a bowtie!

It's virtually impossible to "explain" through a key board,.. seriously!

If I showed you, or drew it on a piece of paper you'd "see" it,... yet another reason to get back to hand writing a letter now and then! HA!

Otherwise, I think if I started describing how to place your thumb here,... pull this through that so you don't loose the little hole you put the last piece of the bowtie through, you'd probably just leave more confused than when you got here! LOL!

For all I know my, "tricks" might even be common practice for some of the gents on here? Who knows?
