Bought some Brut today...not loving it

I've been steering clear of "drugstore aftershaves" like Old Spice, Pinaud, Brut, etc. Today, I went into Walgreens and saw Brut on sale at 50% off. I think I got it for around $3.75 plus tax. Well, when I got home I tried it and I seriously don't like it. Too strong and powdery. I actually had to apply some cream to cover the scent.

Think I'll stick to the higher end AS.

Many folks (myself included) think that Brut reminds them of a less powerful Clubman, with a hint of menthol.
Perhaps Clubman wouldn't be to your liking either.

The up side is that there is a whole world of frags out there, and if you do find an inexpensive one, it can pay off dividends in the long run.

No harm in trying. It'd be pretty boring if we all liked the same stuff here.

It sounds like US drugstores might be a bit like British ones - they tend to mostly stock the more pungent aftershaves and don't have much in the way of light or subtle ones. For example, Boots (big UK chain) has Tabac, Old Spice, Brut, Jovan Musk - I like them all, but they're not subtle - though they do have OS Whitewater, which is quite light.

If you want to still try the Brut how about using an atomizer to apply. You'll use less, better coverage and as it's got a bit more air init, it should be more sutble. Works for me, than again I'm a brut man and even the wife likes it.

I love Brut. It's a powdery and synthetic scent that is great in the winter months.

If you have a Whole Foods nearby, you can probably get a nice cobalt blue glass atomizer bottle there for a couple of bucks. They're usually around the soap, aromatherapy, etc. stuff.

Try a Beauty Supply or Dollar Store for an Atomizer Bottle, the Pharmacy make have a small plastic one in the Travel Section.

I picked up a Brute gift set in a goodwill store not too long ago for $2 (AS and EDC). I've always enjoyed the scent of Brute so this was a pleasant surprise.

Not everyone has the same affection for scents. If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't. Use it on days when you are not too worried about how your as smells.

As far as drug store aftershave goes...You should at least give Aqua Velva a try. I find it much less pungent than the others, and it has a great menthol bomb. At $4 per bottle, what do you have to lose? I find that it also has much better soothing abilities than Brut or Clubman (though I am quite fond of Clubman as well).

It's all right, I love quite a few versions of Brut! If it's not for you, try something else. I was 50/50 on the Skin Bracer original and it grew on me after a while...

just another example of YMMV, I love Brut, I like shaving with Mamma Bears "Brute" soap and follow it with a splash of Brut
