What's new

bought a red tip....did I do ok?

Ok so I finally found a red tip that was in my price range. I paid $12 plus $4.50 shipping. From what I can tell by the pictures it's not in great shape but I'm hoping most of it is gunk/tarnish and a cleaning and polishing will bring it back. It does look like the red on the handle is in good shape though. Assuming I can bring it back to even "good" condition did I do ok with the price? Once I get it I'll post some pics.

I have two red tips. I paid more than you did for one, and less than you did for the other. I think you did just fine. Sometimes it is better to just get the item now than wait long enough to get one for a couple of dollars less.

Hear hear! Also, you never know 'till you actually clean up those ebay finds, could have an alignment problem, or be a real gem. Buying one from BST alleviates those concerns :001_smile

Assuming it cleans up ok and functions without any issues, I'd say you did alright. I paid about that much for mine in the wild. Just wait til you shave with it! I was impressed with mine.:w00t:

I'm glad to find out that I did ok with it. Now I just can't wait for it to get here and see if I can polish it up. Maybe it will be like the $7 Slim I got last week that turned out to be mint!

*update* Apparently our fine USPS has lost my package so I may never discover the joy of red tip shaving!! Yep, I'm pretty damn mad right now.

I have 3 red tips. One is in very good condtion , the other 2 are in fair shape. I am not to particular on what they look like , but they are terrific shavers.

Yeah I called them today and they assigned a "case number" to it and stated that someone would contact me within two days. Hey on the plus side I just won a Y2 black handle superspeed on ebay.....that's right, my birth year and quarter!!!

I hope you do get your stuff. About the price, I know that whenever I think I got a really great deal on eBay, somebody else picks up the same thing at a thrift shop for a dollar. What you paid sounds fine, but if you hear of a better deal later, don't let it bother you.

Mine wasn't it great shape cosmetically either, I would say good condition. It cleaned up fine. If you use scrubbing bubbles, try not to get it on the red paint as the bubbles can sometimes take some off. It's not a great razor if you're a beginner (which I was when I got it) but I like it fine now, but not a favorite. With the blue, regular, and red tip flares, the Gillette company really did a fine job providing options for men with different needs.

The older super speeds, I like better. But the mild black tip super speed has problems with the plastic knob. I've had two with issues opening and closing the razor.

I wish all sellers would use delivery confirmation. It would have made your situation a little easier in regards to finding your package.

Well my red tip came in the mail yesterday.......kinda odd considering that the USPS still says it is lost! Well needless to say it was really nasty but I cleaned it up and polished it up with Flitz and it looks great. No brassing whatsoever and I would say the red paint is 99%. I can't believe the shape it's in to be honest. I'm really happy with it and now can't wait to try it out and see how it shaves.

Glad it finally turned up!
I picked one up in a case for cheap, but whatever the price, they are great shavers, and it's my fave razor.

Hey, Ramblin'..

Just shaved with a Red-Tip Rocket this morning for the first time. Have to admit that although it's not my prettiest razor (I can't get the dull nickel to polish up), it gave me one of my best shaves ever! I thought I'd have trouble with the ATG, but I guess it reduced so much on the WTG and XTG that the ATG was pretty painless!

Best of luck with the sucker!

Nothing is more disappointing when you are eagerly awaiting something in the mail to have it lost. I've a had a number of parcels over the years go missing without a trace. Fortuanately, your razor turned up.

Congrats, enjoy! I have 5 & love them. I have very sensitive skin & a beard like Brillo and this razor is the best. Usually use Feather or Derbys in them & almost never get a nick. I think you will love the razor.
