Bottom of TABAC jar.....***?

So I had about a quarter of Tabac left in the ceramic dish it came in. I scooped it out to transfer to a mama bears plastic container because I am going to take it traveling. Their was some gooey, nasty looking yellowish stuff on the bottom of the dish and soap? Could this be the beloved tallow separating from the soap? As gross as it is, I am still going to use it because TABAC rocks! I am just curious what is up with it.

Yet, just the tallow separating and collecting in the bottom of the dish. (The oils from the tallow) Keep it with the remaining soap puck because it's what gives the slickness and softening element to the soap. (Soap is kinda like sausage; you really don't want to know how it's made!) lol

How true, if you like sausage don't ever watch it be made. :001_tongu

Guys - you need to be more careful about what your write! No telling what all is going to go through my mind in the morning as I make my lather!!

Tallow and all fats in soaps are saponified by the base (lye). So the goop you found at the bottom of the bowl is not going to be tallow separating out...that is chemically impossible (except for any un-saponified fats in the puck).

What you have is likely just very wet sloppy Tabac...

Yeah, if it was tallow seeping out, I'd never use Tabac...if it was that unstable, lol. My guess is it is just from constant wetting of the puck...once it gets wet it will start to separate...

It may be the best part of the puck - you have concentrated tabac mojo.

I'll buy it from you for 20 bucks.

Do you soak it before you start loading up your brush? That's the reason that you may want to stop doing that. I've never found it necessary to soak Tabac.

Since I'm not using Tabac every day anymore I put a drop or two of hot water on the puck and rub it in prior to taking a shower. That's just enough soap prep for Tabac. Granted, weeks go by now between uses.

My guess is water that seeped down into the bowl around the sides of the puck, got trapped where it couldn't evaporate, and mixed with soap to form goop over time.

I put water that was too hot on my Tabac last night. Got that same goop you speak of. Used it to shave- MAGNIFICENT. I don't care if it makes me need to buy more Tabac, it would be worth it!

Precisely, it's just very wet Tabac. It's been known to happen as illustrated here.

The puck should be shoved down to the bottom of the bowl. Those ridges are there to hold the puck stable, not to hold it off the bottom.

This sounds familiar.:tongue_sm

I use tabac in stick form and some of my brand-new sticks have been "sweating" clear yellowish droplets. Could be due to the high humidity in my local climate. Those droplets smells like intense tabac-scent (for lack of better discription). So unless they stink, I think they are pretty harmless.

I don't know what that stuff is, but I suspect that it's vital to the essential nature of Tabac. As my puck got worn down a bit and that stuff started leaking out, I seemed to notice a decrease in the quality of the lather.

Probably an effect of soaking the soap before using it.
It's not necessary with Tabac and you run the risk of doing more harm than good.
