Bostonian shave

I recently purchased a 1926 Bostonian on BST and it arrived yesterday. I cleaned it a little (it was in good shape) and gave it a barbicide soak so it is ready for this morning. I'm going to use a Gillette platinum blade and TOBS almond and see how it goes.

Well, one thing I found out this time before I started to shave is that blade placement is important before, during, and after you tighten the handle. I'm used to just dropping in the blade and going and if I had done that with this razor I would have barely touched the surface on one side and really had a monster on the other. Now that I think of it that is probably while my first open comb razor shave was not very memorable.

Anyway, I think I ended up with a DFS and only a little neck irritation that has already cleared up so it was a good shave. I'll shave for a couple more days and see how things go.

That thing is beautiful! Thanks for stirring my RAD back up. Dang it!:001_rolle

It is the most I've paid, so far, for a vintage razor but I think it was worth it. It also has a beautiful case and blade holder so even after I'm done shaving with it I can enjoy looking at it until I put a blade in it again.

For me the Bostonian and its siblings are the best example of Gillette's "New Improved" design. Absolutely one of the greatest razors ever made. These provoked my razor acquisition disorder. Enjoy.
