Body Grooming - Not shaving...

Now I know most of you are thinking "Oh, no, another shaving your nether regions thread", well it's not. :D Right now to the honest truth, if you don't like discussions about blokey problems look away now.....

Right, here we go, I'm a guy, 24 years old, now I'm not as hairy as some but I am IMHO, fairly hairy from the neck down..... now along with this comes a lot of awkward problems aside from the obvious problems with a hairy bum..... and groin.... which for the sake of my own dignity I do not wish to discuss :blushing: You can imagine that under arms get a bit whiffier quicker than a shaved/trimmed area and my chest gets sweaty quicker, as well as my legs, all in all I take longer to dry after showers and ripping of plasters is just a nightmare. Hot weather is not helpful.... Oh and I'm sure those other hairy members have similar problems with deodorant, it does have toruble penetrating the hair....... so you end up with more on your t-shirts than your armpit... Anyone else get the shower problem? Where you get out having drip dried for a few minutes, then you start towelling off, and bang the surface tension goes and your standing in a puddle of water?

Well anyway, why have I told you this personal, boring and pointless story, well I have for ages tried to trim myself with ordinary hair clippers (having tried to shave myself fully with a merkur progress and feather..... I had bumps etc for ages... painful...). I have now thought of trying a body groomer, but razors with foils give me a rash, I've seen a few that look like clippers, and I really want a waterproof in/out of shower one, but so far I'm drowning in possiblities.....

Any ideas guys???? Anyone use one and can give me an honest, non-biased (like some reviews online seemingly written by philips/remington employees :D ) review?

ATB,
Tom

I'm basically in the same boat as you. I use the Phillips bodygroom and I think it's pretty good. It does what is supposed to do and is gentle on the skin. It works very well on dry skin or in the shower with shaving cream/soap. It doesn't have a long handle, so if you want to use it on your back, you may have to do a lot of crazy arm contortions to get the coverage you need. Thankfully, I don't have much of a back hair issue (yet). After a 4-6 months of usage, the blade/foil thing kind of dulls a bit, but replacements are cheap from amazon.

I've been using this product since it came out several years ago. After about 3 years of weekly usage, the battery went dead and I had to get a new one. I currently have the professional model (black, not blue) and couldn't be happier with it.

If there's something better out there, I too would love to hear about it.

Superb, thanks, my lower back is hairy, but luckily it'll only involve minimal whirling dervish contortions... :D LOL I'm sure lots of blokes have problems but are afraid to ask.....

The philips seems to get the better reviews so far.... does it have a length device? As I'm wanting to trim rather than do a michael phelps.... but I would like to maintain a shorter appearance so to speak... :D

I guess I am one of the very few, but my view is that it is part of who I am. If potential partners have a problem with it, then I do not want to be with them anyway.

But that is me.

If by "potential partners" you mean future wife material, then yes, I agree with you. But if by "potential partners" you mean random girls that you want to sleep with, then I disagree.

I like to maximize my odds with either situation, thus I go with the bodygroom.

When I'm a married, tsk tsk tsk old man, I'm guessing I probably won't still be using the bodygroom.

I have a lot of body hair on the front and luckily not on the back. I used to think that body hair trimming/shaving sounded kind of "metro", but it's very acceptable and manly to trim or even eliminate the body hair all together. I read somewhere, that from generation to generation, men have become noticeably less hairy. So I guess we are still evolving. :)

In the past it seems that I've had more than a few female friends ask me why I didn't shave or at least trim my chest hair shorter. So that's when I figured it was time to do something about it. I now use a hair type clippers to trim my chest, arms & armpit hair shorter and now I couldn't imagine not doing it. I haven't been brave enough to try shaving, but just trimming is better hygiene than not trimming and female friends say that it's simply more attractive. I noticed my pecs and abs look a lot more defined too!

That Bodygroom looks neat. I don't care much for "built in" rechargeable batteries in any device, because they usually only seem to have a few years lifespan. Although I guess it's not all that expensive of device to replace.

Could not have said it better myself. If you dont like me as I am then to bad, I dont need or want you.

I am a rather hairy guy. I'll shave my face. I'll remove any ear or nose hair from my face. I'll even go so far as to let my barber straight razor my eyebrows to ensure there are two of like proportion. But that is the line. I shaved my chest hair one time! And aside from it itching like hell, I realized, I like having the hair.

My chest hair is like the hair of Samson. Never again will it be touched by the blades of men. Shaped like a rising phoenix, others should cower in its presence.
The hair on my chest is an open challenge. Like a bear marking a tree during mating season.

If a woman wants a soft little boy toy, let her look elsewhere. There is enough of them going around as is. Next stop after shaving body hair is what...?
MAKEUP...??!! I'll draw my line here people. They may shave my face....but they will never shave my BOOODDDDYYYY!!!!!

This seems to have slipped to shaving which I'm not after, I'm after trimming my hair, neaten myself up, just to cool off, make myself more "sanitary".... but I do like having hair, especially in the winter :D But when your hairs so long it causes problems why not trim it to an acceptble length..... I'm just greatful my hands arn't hairy, because the amount of copper grease I've been using lately I'd be matted heavily. :D

Right here we are:

I had been looking at one of these: http://www.consumer.philips.com/c/beard-trimmer/33961/cat/gb/

Or now these:

http://www.consumer.philips.com/c/mens-grooming/bodygroom-plus-tt2030_10/prd/gb/
http://www.consumer.philips.com/c/mens-grooming/bodygroom-tt2021_31/prd/gb/

Any users say which bodygroom they use? Both seem to offer pro's and cons but the first seems the best...

In the name of being sanitary, have at it...there is nothing in the least bit wrong with that. But I'm not going to be taking my God given armor off for anything in this world...exception perhaps made for surgery.

Definite, I like having my fur coat too :D Although the hair between my toes I could do without sometimes.....

Tom, you're starting to sound like a Hobbit!....or maybe Chewbacca's cousin!

In the past I've used the trimmer end of a Wilkinson Sword Quattro, the clipper is narrow and has 3 settings so it's serviceable. Probably not very handy for doing your own back though.

+ Another 1 for the Bodygroom.

I have the blue Bodygroom and like it.

I've gone Wookie for the winter, but will be breaking that Bodygroom out again soon!

It looks like your thread could have also had a good "Poll" going.
Body Hair, do you:
• Shave it
• Trim it
• Don't touch it

From just looking at those bodygroom devices, I don't see a whole lot of difference between the two. The first one lists 'self sharpening blades' and both have 2 year warranty which is good.

edit added: a corded model would be nice
