For this poll, we want to give loft height a "mulligan" because a lot of gents expressed interest in changing their vote to a shorter-lofted brush on a 24mm knot.

The current "solid" specs for the brush are:
- A 24mm knot
- Cream bristles
- Premium hair grade if Semogue manufacturers it. Omega only offers one grade of Hog hair.
- An acrylic handle with a dark blue body and a clear or pearl bottom (depending on manufacturer capability/willingness)
- Priced at $50 or less

I picked 53mm because anywhere between 50 and 55 suits me. I think the end graphic will portray a tendency toward a certain loft if it doesn't portray an outright winner, which is why I voted the way I did.

I'm in for the 50mm.

This should be packed well enough to ensure plenty of backbone, even to the scrubby face-lathering crowd. Using appropriately quality bristle, the tips should be fairly gentle on the face when the brush is broken in.

with a 24mm knot, i think anything less than a 55mm loft is going to be too stiff.

Not necessarily, with a "premium" bristle this should work out fine once broken in. The tips should be softer but yet have decent back bone too. If it were an entry level hog brush, sure I might agree with you but premium boar should be great.

Yeah, but getting enough "backbone" shouldn't be a real issue with a boar brush. It's too much backbone that I'm worried about. We don't want to end up with an "Exfoliator"

Seriously... :biggrin1:

Maybe we should do two brushes. Same handle, just different lofts!

Seriously, maybe we SHOULD!!

Remember, it's the custom handle that will likely require more of a minimum order so if we split the brush into two different lofts, say 100 of each the 55 and 50 loft, that would make both camps happy and likely satisfy a minimum handle order too. I think you'd find a fair number of members who might even buy both lofts. I know I would consider it. Thats something to think about should the loft issue remain as tightly divided as it is right now.

Boars being so cheap, I'd buy both versions.

I'm interested in a new boar and I also agree with linux. I would like to see what the brush manufacturer thinks is the shortest loft we should go with for their particular bristles.

I voted 55mm but would love the shortest loft the maker of the brush would recommend without making "The Exfoliator II"

different shades of blue for each loft?

That would likely mean two different handles and that's not probably going to be feasible. Most likely we're going to be faced with a minimum order quantity and we'll be lucky if we can at least split the knot into two different lofts. I don't know if that is even possible but would be more likely then the possibility of two different colored handles in my opinion. Time will tell though.

For me the handle is the least important part of the brush as long as it isn't wood; I would prefer to put the money into the knot where it should do the most good.

I just think that with any bristle (barring maybe the ultra semogue bristles and a LONG) breakin time, that 50 would be too stiff, too scrubby. I figured I'd vote 55, even though I'd honestly prefer 53... I'd rather have 55 than 50, and since 53 clearly doesn't stand a chance, I went for my more preferable of the two.

Truth be told though, I'll buy it either way :blushing:
