Bloody Mary Mix

I have just been introduced to what is perhaps the perfect Bloody Mary mix.

Zing Zang. http://zingzangcom.easystorecreator.com/

I find that most mixes are very weak and require fortification with copious amounts of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauces and black pepper. Not this stuff. It has a thick, rich tomato base and just the right amount of zing with some zang thrown in for good measure.

All you will need to add is some celery and a couple of dilled green beans from Woody's Smokehouse, or dill spears if you're not lucky enough to be livin' in Texas. A definite number one choice for that just right Sunday morning breakfast/brunch/lunch to ease your hangover.

What is your favorite Bloody Mary concoction?

A real, home made Blood Mary is such a simple thing. I am not sure why anyone should need a mix, whether it is good or not.

I agree. Especially now, when big, ripe, fresh tomatoes are so readily available. Fresh squeezed tomato juice makes a great Bloody.

I'll have to try the homemade, while Tabasco makes two versions of Bloody Mary Mix - the hot one with extra horseradish is what I prefer. But I just realized because of the above post I should try 100% DIY, since I still add more horse radish, lemon juice, celery salt, red & black pepper, and 6-7 drops of Cholula AND celery stalks to the "store bought". Maybe I can save some steps? :biggrin1:

Homemade Bloody Mary mix is an easy creation to make a up a big batch for a party/gathering. Make up a pitcher of mix, set out a bottle of Vodka, a bucket of ice and lot's of garnishes, and you've got a party going!

Standard:

Tomato or V8 juice
Worcestershire sauce (teaspoon)
Tabasco (5 drops)
Slice of lime or lemon
Vodka
Ice
Salk of celery

Variation:

Tomato or V8 juice
Worcestershire Sauce (1/2 teaspoon)
Cayenne pepper (approximately 1/8 teaspoon)
Slice of lime or lemon
Vodka
Ice
Celery salt

+10 on the Zing Znag if you are in a hurry. If not I would suggest a Bloody Caesar as an interesting alternative. It contains Clamato. You can find a great recipe on the Food Network.

Zing Zang with a little squirt of Sriracha makes and excellent Bloody Mary. For even more spice go with the Absolut Peppar.

We've also been pretty happy with Mike Ditka's Bloody Mary mix and Twisted Spoke but I'm not sure how widely either is available. Tried some Red-Eye Texas Fire last weekend, and I like spicy Bloody Marys, but it was too much. I think we've tried everything available for the most part and have settled on these three. There's always the unusual mix here and there but so far these have been the winners. I heard Freshies was good but haven't found any locally.

There are quite a few good recipies here. Honestly the mixes are just a litte easier for bloody marys. I roll my own for everything else.

sheesh... if I'm making a bloody mary it means it's saturday or sunday morning and I certainly wasn't planning the night before on having one. A mix, and a few shakes of additives, plus vodka is all I will be able to handle.

Yall have a blast mixing up your own concoction while I nurse my hangover with the pre-made stuff.

LOL and Amen to that...

I love Bloody Marys, but man are they a lot of work. I like to take a good mix, and augment with a bunch of other stuff anyway...I end up with spicy salad in a glass...Mmmm...

Mr. Scruffy, thanks for the suggestion...I'll be on the lookout for the ZZ!

Following a suggestion in a book, I tried making a bloody with Akvavit instead of Vodka.
The caraway is a nice twist on the theme. Call it a Bloody Marta or whatever.

If you can find it Red Eye Horseradish (made in Texas) is amazing. It is like a Bloody Mary shrimp cocktail.

I am with you on the Zing Zang. It has far better taste than any mix I have ever had. I always have a bottle at home and a few for camping weekends. It will clear a hangover in a hurry.

Nothing at all wrong with using a mix as a starting point for a great Bloody Mary - I daresay many, many bars (including more than a few good ones) do the same. No need to start throwing 4 pounds of brandywines in the blender just to make a drink. Personally, I like the Tabasco "Extra Spicy" stuff. Since it's not REALLY "extra spicy", I generally doctor it up with:

  • tabasco/crystal
  • lime juice
  • horseradish/wasabi
  • worcestershire
  • olive brine
  • black pepper
  • clam juice (depending on mood)

At this point, you have a workable base for a decent Bloody Mary. Add vodka and as much garnish as you can handle and you're in business. :thumbup1:

Ok, just tried the ZingZang .. very spicy as originally reported but alas too much Worcestershire in there for me .. not so bad as to drain into the sink mind you, just not my taste. So after I drain it down me gullet, I am back to the Tabasco Extra Horseradish with augmentations, until I get up the momentum to try some recipes for homemade ..
