Blade material

I was looking at kitchen knives the other day and it seems that a ceramic knife has some serious advantages. That being said, why aren't straight razors made from ceramic too? Lots of kitchen knives are also Damascus steel...why not straights? It would at the very leases look cool.

I am not a straight user just yet (just decided to try out DE and am waiting on my razors to arrive). I am interested in straights in the future and was curious.

Those are some beautiful blades, global!

As far as ceramic: I would imagine it to be too brittle, especially if you think about how wafer thin a full hollow ground razor has to be...I could be wrong, though..Maybe a ceramic Wedge would work? hmmm...

It is easy to make a ceramic blade sharp enough to cut a tomatto. But kitchen sharp, and shaving sharp are a world apart. It might be possible to make ceramic straight razor blades, but the complexity and cost would not make it profitable.
