What's new

Big Fellow/Boy question

So I picked up a Big Fellow/Boy with some oddities. The metal box doesn't have the words "Big .....", just the Gillette diamond. Not even the "known the world over." Also the serial number on the New head doesn't seem to be consistent with the serial numbers of the time from what I can tell. So I'm basically just confused at this point. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The serial # is correct. Your razor is probably from 1930. That is an early NEW Big Boy. There is a picture of that identical set on page 222 of Krumholz's Gillette Collector book.

I am looking at page 222 of Krumholz's book and it shows a NEW Big Boy in the same case as you have.

As for the number, I think that was the period when only the Deluxe razors were numbered and there was no letter code.

I defer to the experts.

Not an expert, but what he said. We've seen several of those early NEWs with the odd serial numbers. I had a near-mint one that I sold a while back. Mine, like yours, did not have a model identification under the case's Gillette logo.

+1

all NEW with SN are DeLuxe. This SN will not date the razor, but I believe, that all DeLuxe are from 1930
