Best soap for dry skin

My skin drys out a lot in the winter. What is the best moisturing soap that you've used? I'm not concerned about price but want a product that will not only be good for my dry skin but also forms a great lather. I usually face lather but can resort to a bowl if need be.

Thanks!

Any good tallow soap is good IMO for dry skin (I have it!)

For me the top picks are Cella & Olivia's crema (a hardish "putty" much like Cella)

Many swears by MWF, I have never used it though.

I noticed I don't get dry skin from P160 or Speick. So I highly recommend them.
I know Tabac/IM/Palmolive stick/ Valobra are drying.
You could try some french soaps. I read they are moisturizing, but I haven't tried one yet.

+1 on the Cella. MWF does work very well.

There may be subtle differences based on what soap you use, but I think if your skin gets really dry in the winter the answer lies not in switching soaps but in your post-shave moisturizing balm.

I am just going to throw this out there - let's not forget the importance of staying hydrated, I have yet to drink too much water on a daily basis.
My overall skin dryness is less when I consume plenty of water.

And before you ask; NO beer does not count :001_rolle

Very good point, nobody drinks enough water anymore.

I drink one 16oz glass of water (some with a little bit of that bottled lemon juice for flavor and it's good for your insides apparently) EVERY HOUR while I'm at work.

I'll grab some OJ or low sodium V8 before work as well, and after work a few beers

Interesting. I know this makes sense, but I drink 3-4 liters of water a day and my face is as dry as can be. Year-round. I guess it's just not true for EVERYONE.

I use Mitchell's Wool Fat and that works for me. I've also found Pre de Provence to be very moisturizing.

I actually think that there is very little to support the notion that "staying hydrated" helps to maintain skin hydration.

The idea that we need to consume lots of free water is wrong to begin with; we gets lots of hydration from foods we eat and from drinking other beverages. Very few people who aren't acutely ill are actually dehydrated to any appreciable extent.

I have 32oz mug on my desk and drink 3-5 mugs a day. Must be my genetics becuase I'm getting plenty of water. No alcohol for almost 22 years so I'm not counting that!

All great soap recommendations. Living here in the desert is really hard on the skin during the summer and especially in the winters. Tallow soaps work great but nothing much is better conditioning than a soap with lanolin and/or shea. So MWF (tallow too:w00t::w00t:), Pre de Provence, Institut karite, Acca Kappa (tub), are some of the best I've tried for my face.

Pre de Provence gets my vote.

I have dry skin, and this is where a pre shave is beneficial. Some days my skin will suck the water out of my lather if I dont use a pre oil or cream.

In no particular order; MWF, Valobra stick, IK.

Agree also that tallow soaps are generally more moisturizing than their veg counterparts.

I would say that all soaps are meant to be moisturizing. The key is making the right lather with them. There are two kinds (mainly) of soaps/cremes:

1. Lanolin/Tallow-based
2. Glycerin-based

Mitchell's Wool Fat (MWF) and Cella are great for the first category

Al's Da Bomb, mama Bear's, Trumper's, etc, (pretty much anything) should be great for category 2.

I would even recommend mixing categories...gives for an amazingly moisturizing lather...regardless of whether you have dry or oily skin

lot's of veggie based products as well. Palm oil is primarily used as the base for a cold process soap.
