Best shaving cream?

I'm looking for something that smells good but not too strong or expensive.

greetings, professor, welcome to b&B. i recommend "poraso" shave cream (made in italy) or "musgo real" brand (portugal).

[EDIT]: and "speick" from germany, how did i forget speick? also meets all of your criteria.

all three are relatively easy to master for a new user, shave better than many more expensive creams, smell great but not overpowering and are relatively inexpensive. all usually available on amazon or any number of smaller shaving suppliers. three i like are:

www.westcoastshaving.com
www.shoeboxshaveshop.com
www.bullgooseshaving.net

g'luck!

When I started out exploring creams, I ordered a bunch of samples from The Shave Den. Good way to get started without spending too much money, or getting stuck with something that everyone raves about here, that you end up thinking it smells like dookey.

Of course, you're going to get everyone's biased favorites...:biggrin1:

Penhaligon's (Blenheim Bouquet is my favorite but $$)
Castle Forbes (Lime, Lavender, Cedar/Sandalwood but $$)
La Toja
Ingram
TOBS
Fitjar

Finally an easy question to ansver :)
L'Occitane CADE Shaving Cream is by far my best cream. Understated, but absolutely wonderful scent. Using a squeezed out brush and adding very little water, I get a rich and creamy lather that makes shaving a truly wonderful experience.

Badgerdecants offers samples. You have received good advice (reading the reviews) and also mention of some of the more popular brands. Proraso, Musgo, and TOBS creams are all fairly inexpensive and well-liked. Other ideas might be Speick, Trumper, and Trueffit & Hill.

this reminds me of something that happened to me many years ago when i worked in a very high-end tobacco shop. my boss asked me one day,

"david, what is the best cigar in the shoppe?"

i started reeling off a list of the most expensive, most exclusive cigars we carrried and each time i threw out a name, he shook his head. frustrated, i blurted out...

"i dunno. you tell me!"

he smiled for a second and said, "the best cigar we carry is the one you like the best and it doesn't matter if it costs 79 cents or 79 dollars. what matters is that you like it"

what is the best shaving cream?

FLORIS ELITE. just kidding. the best cream is the one you enjoy the most.

good luck in your search. there are TONS of great creams out there to choose from

I get great results from Nivea Cream. It has a very subtle fragrance, is cheap in this part of the world and provides a great lather.

Umm, might want to read the reviews on this one before pulling the trigger.
