The Peter Gunn theme is one of Mancini's best. It has been covered repeatedly--what is your favorite version?

Unfortunately, there isn't a good version of ELP's cover on YouTube, so this link will have to do.

Ah, Peter Gunn as performed by the Spy Hunter Orchestra. It gets really funky after a while. This is one song that I collect different version and covers for. I have a about 5 different version from Henry and his Orchestra.

it was a tough call Mr. Mancini always is exelent i love teh art of noise cover.

now if only daft punk would do a cover...
or Bella flec or Robert cray, Yngwie Malmsteen, or any number of others.

<enter inner band geek> I'd say the best Peter Gunn theme was the one my high school marching band played! It was one of the opening songs we played as our basketball team took the court.

I am very fond of Sarah Vaughan providing the vocals:

And if you want it a little jazzed up, here's a fantastic remix from the Verve Remixed series from a few years ago:

Hello all, I'm new to the forum ,but a long time lurker, and thought I would weigh in the poll. Growing up in the 80's Art of Noise is my prefered version followed by Spy Hunter as a close second. I never could get to the boat level, but I loved using the oil slick. JonDC, I enjoyed the Sarah Vaugh version from Verve remixed. If you enjoy the Verve Remixed and Unmixed series check out the xmas albums. Great to finally be here.

Welcome to B&B! Interestingly enough, it was the theme that pushed me to keep feeding quarters into Spy Hunter. To hear the cool little "solos," you had to be good enough to play without wrecking for several minutes. I loved getting to the boats, because it was so much easier once you were there, provided you still had your oil slick--the oil turned to fire on the water. Once you run out, though...get back on the road! :001_cool:

I'm a fan of ELP, and I love their version. I also love the Art of Noise version, primarily because of Duane Eddy's guitar work. That said, I've not yet met a cover of this song that I didn't like.
