Best Fougere? (or is something else more appropriate?)

Would you say that it is your favorite fougere?

Yes it is. I still kick myself that I did not buy several bottles when The Gentlemens Shop sold out their stock for 50% off. Of course that was 4 years ago. The Fougere is longer lasting than Trumpers. The scent is similar but different. If that makes any sense.

Gents, I ask because I'll be headed home to the States in December. In an effort to minimize what I'm carrying I'd like to find a new scent, as a treat to myself, that I can capitalize on this trip.

Thoughts on Fougere use in Winter? I'll be in Indiana in Winter (cold and snow).

If I can decide on a scent I'll likely stock up on an entire line of product for the trip.

Any/all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I've read on Basenotes that many who like Trumpers and Pens fern scents don't care of Pecksniffs?? What is the most notable difference?

Anyone have any winter time favorites that will be good for both casual wear and a few days in my best suit?

Thanks for the link...

I think the difference is lavender. If you don't like it, it's not for you.

I do like Lavender.

Thanks for bring this up. I will be wearing Pens to church this morning.

I may just go this route. I have a few pucks of Pens (Tallow First) EF so maybe I just need the EDT and AS to finish off the theme.

I read somewhere that there might be a limited issue of Houbigant's Fougere Royale available sometime in November. That could be worth a try.

I wonder what other fougeres are out there that resemble English Fern or Wild Fern. Crown's Fougere is also out of production and that, along with Fougere Royale, are the ones that are most often mentioned together.

For me, the problem is sorting through all the fougeres that aren't similar. There are really quite a lot of them. Jicky is often said to be a classic fougere, and if you try, you can see a kinship to these others. But the differences are striking too, and it wouldn't create the same kind of ambience as EF or WF. The venerable Brut and Canoe (and probably Clubman, by extension) are somewhere in the fougere family tree too. While I know you could find them in Indiana, that's probably not what you want to go back to get!

I'm curious if any of our fellow B&B members can come up with others that would fit into this corner of the fougere world. And I have always harbored the hope that, if B&B ever embarks on another bespoke fragrance, it would be a clean fougere in the spirit of EF or WF.

Rob, Rive Gauche pour homme is listed as a Fougere, and is certainly one of my favorites of the category however, it's significantly different than Pens Fern. it's also twice as versatile, that would certainly be excellent in jeans or a suit.

Im also with Henry, give Knize Ten and Domenico Caraceni a shot, they're both "blow your mind" fragrances that are something to experiance.

I'm not big on the catgories, but I find Rive Gauche Pour Homme excellent and I gather it's a fougere.

I'll also toss out a newbie which I gather is considered more of a fougere than anything else- Pens Sartorial. Just got it and getting to know it. But my early sense is it's a great new elegant gentlemen's scent for sure.

I'll have to give that a try. My last testing experiences with Pen's didn't go to well--I think that it was the Jubilee Bouquet that turned me off.
