Best deal You Ever Got on a Magazine

This is mine;

When I was in college, I was in ROTC, and we would go on exercises with actual M16's with blank ammo.They would give us 20 round mags to use, but some of us went out and bought 30 round mags of our own so we could have more fire power. I went to a military surplus store and got a descent steel 30 round magazine for something around $5 back in 1980.

Sadly, when I came home from leave from Germany in the mid 80's, the magazine had disappeared.

I bought something like 75 or 80 Walther P99 9mm magazines, the old 16 rounders from an acquaintance for something like $10 a magazine. They had been sitting under his desk in a box for about 12 years and he wanted them gone and I happened to be in his office the day he was walking the box out to the dumpster, it was all I could do to get him to take any money at all so he said $10 each. I swapped out most of my 15 rounders and kept a few more and a few years later when I rediscovered the box sold the extras for a bit more than $10.

When I got an AR 15 back in the late 1980s seems like surplus 20-round magazines were 5 for $10 at gun shows. 30-round magazines were little more than that. Gathered plenty up. I like the 20-round magazine far better than the 30 round magazine.

When I was in Iraq the second time, we signed for our team's humvee and I was out cleaning it with a couple of privates and found 6 HK AR mags inside of a cooler. Id have to say free has been the best deal i've ever gotten.

My first year in college I bought 3 Magpul p mag for $5 a mag at a gunshow. nowadays the same things are $50 a pop if you can find them.

I was looking for a spare magazine for my RIA M20p last year. I could choose from the standard 10 rounds for $19.95 or a 15 round magazine for the same price. I thought that was quite the deal for the 15 round magazine until I went back to the same shop a couple of weeks ago and they now have 30 round magazines for $24.95. You can probably guess which ones I bought in each case.

I got one of those clear plastic Steyr mags in a thrift store for $2. They had no idea what it was. I traded it for a case of beer to a guy I know who collects military stuff. I also found the proper steyr cleaning kit at the same store some time later. That cost $5, and I kept that. Might come in handy.

30 round steel AK mags - There was a big box at a local store. When I bought my AMD-65 (Hungarian AK variant) when they were still cheap and plentiful, they guy just told me to grab 5 mags out of the box on the way out the door-no charge.

I was walking down the street in 1979 and found a trashcan full of war souvenirs that was being thrown out from the kids of a WW2 vet. So free is the best buy on a magizine for me. The other items help me pay for my car.
