Meehan's Bay Rhum cologne. High quality bay rum scent that lasts. Plus, it's inexpensive. Great stuff! :thumbup1:

You might also consider Ogalalla's line of bay rums. The come in Aftershave, Cologne, and "Special Reserve" double-strength Cologne strengths. Great products, good prices, and John is a gentleman who is a true joy to interact with. Let him know that you're from B&B and he'll throw in a little more "extra stuff" to his already generous extras that he includes in every order.

A frequent topic. Superior 70 because of its pure bay tree leaf oil content and aroma, and its utter lack of tenacity. Most of the time I look to BR ourely as an AS and do not want its scent to have any staying power whatsoever so I can wear any edt I want that day. Very soothing with very light burn. It seems to do well for my skin at least in combination with all the other stuff I put on. Also, very inexpensive when I can get it locally.

To my usual response of the regular version of Superior 70 BR, you can add what appears to the the Superior 70 bay rum eucalyptus version, although the word "Superior" appears nowhere on the bottle. Very much the usual S70 with an overlay of sort of a vegetal/even herbal eucalytpus. Opens the breathing a bit, but is a far distance from Vicks vapor rub. Has all of the other pleasent things that regular S70 has, but is all the harder to obtain.

The menthol version is very nice, too, but I am not as into menthol and it does not seem quire as special, or quite as much a BR!

Ogallala, particularly the AS, is great, too, as is Dominica, which is strong and pure seeming. I really want to try Master's. I like BRs with a minimum of clove and cinammon.

Having tried nearly every Bay Rum, besides some long gone vintages like Creed's Bayrhum Vetiver,
my favorite of them all, the one smelling closest to FRESH batches of Pimenta racemosa oil, is St. John's.

I also really like St. John's bay Rum w/ Lime, and can't decide yet which St. John's I will buy.

+1 on the Superior 70 regular and eucalyptus version. The menthol version is too medicinal to my liking and very strong on the menthol punch. While somewhat of an exaggeration, it is a bit like rubbing Ben Gay or the like on your face. I suspect it would work better as a muscle rub...

Thanks for that response, Mike. Sounds like you have a good source for the eucalyptus. Count yourself lucky for that! Any idea whether it comes in the 750 ml (25 oz) size as well as the 12 oz size? I consider my self very blessed to have any of eucalyptus. "I relied on the kindness of strangers" and am very grateful for it.

Have you ever smelled anything quite like the eucalyptus version before? I think perhaps I have, in a suana that had real sprigs of eucalyptus lying around it, but nowhere else. Seems like wonderful stuff to me. I am nearly as impressed with it as I was when I first came upon the regular BR.

Like I said above, I do not like the menthol as much, because, I, it sounds like you, too, am just not as into strong menthol. Just to give folks around here a good idea of what it is like, though, I would say the S70 menthol is not quite as strong a menthol as Osage Rub or Liushen Florida Water. I would say that I definitely like the S70 better than either of those two--partly because it has the menthol dialed back a little bit from them, and becuase it still has that really pure BR aroma in there, too. I think I would say that I like Liushen more than Osage, because I like the other scents in Lisuhen better than I like the other scents, or lack of other scents, in Osage. I would say though that Liushen has at least the menthol kick of Osage.

I can pick up the eucalyptus version pretty consistently in a CVS near my home in eastern MA. The CVS is in a Hispanic neighborhood, and they have an "ethnic" section with goodies like the Superior 70 of each type (in the 12 oz. size) and M & L Florida Water. The eucalyptus version reminds me of a trip I made a couple of years back tent camping in the Redwoods State Forest in northern California, when we slept under a big eucalyptus tree. The combo with of the bay rum also conjures up notes not dissimilar to witch hazel - but longer lasting that witch hazel - to my senses. Nice.

BTW - I have read enough about the extreme menthol kick of the Osage Rub to keep my distance...

I think I compared the eucalyptus to witch hazel in a note to someone, too, but more as to how distinctive it is. I like the smell of witch hazel, but I am sure that is because, in part, of all the good memories it brings up to me. I think most people will like the smell of this stuff, whether or not they like witch hazel. I agree that it is absolutely as distinct as witch hazel. And it has something of that vegetal quality to it.

I have never seem anything but the regular BR in the 25 oz version, so it may be that only that version comes in 25 oz.

I would think that given the Latin population in and around DC S 70 would be everywhere, but it just does not seem to be!

all of the ogallala line are excellent. the sandalwood, and the limes and peppercorns have no burn to me at all. double strength regular cologne--wow! burns like crazy but lasts a very long time and smells great. i like pinaud very much, use it often. stephans is very nice but the scent is very short lived. superior 70 is awesome, cheap, smells great and is an excellent summer splash whether using as an after shave, or just to feel great after mowing the lawn! bay rum is one of those things you just have to try to find what you like. luckily, most is very reasonable cost wise, so if you do get one you dont favor, you're not out 50 or 60 bucks.

I love Tobs Bay Rum, lasts a long time, is not too strong and reminds me of the Orange Pomanders my mother used to make when I was a child :-D

The Superior 70 is the real thing, and therefore, it doesn't last too long. I use it as an AS, and it's excellent.

I noticed that Dominica makes a cologne. Anyone know where you can buy that off the shelf, or do you have to order it?
