Best $100 Brush?

really depends person to person (soaps, creams, face, bowl, etc.). For me, I'd say the Duke 2 or SOC (much cheaper of course) are my favorites under $100.

My favourites brushes that I can buy in $100-130 range are - Thater 3-band, Rooney 1/2 Silvertip, Savile Row, Shavemac Silvertip

There's no such thing. Brush selection is a highly subjective matter at any price point. Even the word best is highly subjective -- regardless of topic. Start off by reading here:

Then tell us what you're looking for.

Im looking for a well constructed durable brush preferably silvertip. Right now I'm using AOS pure badger brush, its not bad but this is my first and only brush, the brush i bought to get into wetshaving because AOS is near my house. Now im ready for the next step, I use TOBS cream and I Bowl lather, my lather is never particularly warm enough for my taste and it takes longer than I think it would with a better brush to build lather. I soak the brush while I'm in the shower, I want an all around brush that ill be satisfied with, i guess a brush that if you guys had to pick to only have one which would it be? And I would imagine that large brushes be impractical no?

You don't have to spend that much for a decent brush. I own 10 + brushes and the one I grab most often is a Simpsons Special in pure, feels ideal in my hand and the bristles are a perfect loft and stiffness.

Both are over your $100 price by around $30 but these two brushes pretty much have been rocking my boat for quite a while

You cannot go wrong with a Simpson X2L "Colonel". IMO Price for value the best Simpson brush out there. Versatile; soaps/crams, bowl/face, soft as silk (in best) and fits within your budget requirements. This is the brush that got me to give badgers brushes a second look. :badger:

Rooney 3/1. Good jumping off point to the world of better brushes.

+1

The Rooney 3/1 below was my first badger hair brush. I bought it in December of last year for about $75. Looks like they go for closer to $85 today. It was a great little brush when I got it and still is. If I were choosing between it and a Rooney Style 1, Size 2 today (priced closer to $104), it would probably be a toss up.

+1 to what Ken says about a 3/1 and a 1/2 .

If only I could get Rooney's in the UK, I'd easily have a couple more in my collection.

The 3/1 is a slightly better brush than a BK4 IMHO.

The Kent range comes into it's own when you start looking at a BK8 or BK12.

I would also look at a WSP Monarch as they offer an awful lot of brush at a cheap price.

You also can't go far wrong with something in Simpsons Best as well (although a Wee Scott may be bit too small for an everyday brush).

I love my SOC and my Simpson Special Best Badger, I also have a Simpson Commodore X3 in the mail... can't wait!

A nice Silvertip may retain more heat but you're probably not going to magically get warm lather from a better brush.
