What's new

Beginning to burn...All of a sudden?

Recently (A week or so,(and, I shave every other day)) I've noticed that every time I shave I get a bit of a burning sensation during, and for a while after. Now, I don't know why it's suddenly doing this. And it's not Hard/software related.

The first time I had it was with MWF, and, though I'd used it before a number of times, I thought maybe I'd suddenly developed an intolerance to lanolin, but I also got it another time with a different soap (I think it was Neal's Yard), and that time I used Burt's bees AS cream (which I had also used (once) before), and after that it was like I had dipped my face into Vesuvius, it (mostly on lower cheek, jaw and neck area) went red and was burning almost to the point of throbbing , and actually had to wipe my face with a wet cold flannel, and it eased off a lot after that.

Today, I used TOBS Eton, and as I started to shave It was burning a bit during, but wasn't quite like the previous times, mostly a warm sort of tingling, and after I applied AS/EDT, it eased off some, but still remained mildly warm for a bit.

Now, let me just say, the first couple of times weren't great days and there may have been a bit of a lack of concentration (One of them, I actually cut my finger with the razor), and had a few weepers around, so some of them may have had some extra pressure. But today’s shave was ‘perfect’, no cuts, and very focused, but I still got some burning, and a bit of redness.

P.S. I also used different brushes on each shave. And for info's sake, I use a 2-pass 'system' and do have senstiveish skin, and only focus on doing a 'Close-Comfortable-Shave', but generally often get razor-bumps and weepers (mostly on the neck).

Tx.

Take the weekend off - let your face heal up - and start again on Monday with something that you know doesn't cause irritation. Narrow it down from there.

I don't know what happened but about a month ago I developed some irritation on my neck that wouldnt go away despite flawless attention to technique. After a week of bad shaves I took 3 days off, used L'Occitane After Shave Balm on the days off, it healed up and haven't had a single issue yet. I think at some point I was irritating, irritated skin; shaving daily was fuel on the proverbial fire.

Well, as I say, I always only shave every other day, anyway, so...? (And my last shave (before today's), was the vesuvius one, the most often affected areas were left comparatively long(er) because of all the irritation I was getting during the shave)

And as to using something I know doesn't cause irritation, well, up until now, nothing really has done...
