WELCOME TO B&B!

Yes, many members have used Master Bay Rum, including me. If you're interested in a review (or 10!), just click on the "reviews" link at the top of the page, then go to "aftershaves" and use the alphabet function to find Master.

There are many takes on the theme of Bay Rum out there, from outrageously in-your-face to subtle and classy. Perhaps you're just not into the scent of bay oil. As we say here at Badger and Blade, "YMMV" ("Your Mileage May Vary"). The good news is that there are literally hundreds of aftershaves out there, and prices vary from the ridiculously cheap (less than $2 for a good sized bottle) to the very pricey.

It's a fun exploration and journey, hope you enjoy it. Once again, welcome to B&B - the nicest and most-well-mannered site on the web!

i can get it in my town for 7.49 for a 12.5 oz bottle is that a good deal?

Give or take a few bucks, that seems to be about the going price for a bottle on the street, Chris.

You might want to check your yellow pages under "Barber Supplies" to see if there's such a place near you, as they generally have the best prices for these types of products and a larger selection than is available elsewhere. Don't forget your local Sally Beauty Supply store as well - I know that they carry both Master Bay Rum and Pinaud Clubman aftershave.

Lots of members also use and enjoy "knock-off" aftershaves from places like the local Family Dollar and Dollar General stores, which are available for less than $2 a bottle (the "Spice" aftershave made by Vi-Jon is a good choice for a more authentic vintage Old Spice aftershave, and the Barbasol line of "Brisk" and "Pacific Rush" are both well-liked here). Some members have even scored vintage "NOS" (New Old Stock) aftershaves in collector's bottles at their local thrift stores. Ethnic grocery stores (both Latino and Indian) can be a surprising source of shaving goodies. Antique stores can be great sources for used vintage DE, SE and straight razors.

Once you start looking, you'll be surprised at the local resources that are out there for wetshaving. There are also many internet sources for all kinds of wet shaving products, and the vendors are generally a great bunch of people to do business with. Many offer B&B members a discount (check the wiki pages for the relevant discount codes). Have fun!

thats where i got my pinaub from sally beauty supply, its right in front of my walmart, i have never thought about the antique stores or the ethnic stores, we have alot of both of them in my town.

yes it does.....
so do you think the antique stores or the
ethnic stores will have any brushes??

A possible yes to both, but the antique store's wares will probably need a major overhaul/re-knotting. My local Indian store does carry a generic synthetic brush, but I've never pursued it so I can't speak to the quality.

If you're looking for a good value brush available locally, many CVS and Walgreen stores carry the Tweezerman line, which gets good word here. If I remember correctly, their badger brush is also pretty inexpensive.

WalMart carries the Van der Hagen (VDH) brush, which is a cheap (both in price and quality)boar bristle brush for about $5. Try the VDH glycerin soap as well, it's a pretty good performer for not much cash (I used some just last night, and it was great!). You can get both in a set along with a lather bowl for around $7.

Go to our review section and see if you can find a review for the generic chinese badger brush, which goes for about $10. That might be something to look into. Google will be your friend when looking for a brush, in general.

If cost is less of a worry for you, I'd highly recommend checking out one of our members, Rudy Vey, who is a custom brush maker. Truly excellent work, and a great guy to do business with. His brushes outperform many higher-priced commercial makers.

I had to come back to it. When I first got it - similar to Pinaud Clubman & Clubman Special Reserve - I was kinda iffy on the smell. Over time I've grown to like it a lot.
