bandsaw motor broke, advise new please

hey,


I have problems with my 14" Jet Bandsaw motor for some time now. Lately it was hanging up during its work process. So for me its time to change the motor.


I did look at Baldors, and found one on here that is more or less compatible https://www.mrosupply.com/product/24945-Baldor_Electric_Motors-Motors_AC_Motors_General_Purpose


What kind of motors are in your bandsaws? what is your opinion of Baldors? what are the alternatives?

Baldor make great motors. The link you have shows a 7.5hp motor, I'm pretty sure that is waay too much power for your bandsaw. Also, are you running 220/3/60? That kind of power is unusual in a house.

I was thinking the same thing. 1-1/2 HP for a 14" seems more like it, and the price as given approaches what I paid for my own Jet bandsaw. Have you tried searching Grainger's catalog? They have a lot of motors for sale. Others might tell you to head down to your nearest garbage dump and check out the appliance "section" there. Surplus Center also has some motors at a discounted rate.

When replacing a motor, look at the nameplate on your existing motor to ensure you get an accurate match.I important considerations are hp rating, electircal requirements, speed and frame size. Look at Shop Fox, the company that makes Jet makes Shop Fox and they are like half the price for the same exact thing. Look at the Shop Fox M1113! It's also variable speed, which the Jet is not!!
