Bakelite Rod

While digging thru a bunch of stuff at an antique shop I run across an old Butterscotch bakelite rod. It was probably 18 inches maybe and a cost of $30 something dollars. I didn't buy it but I know where it's at..... So the bells go off.... Could it be used to make handles??? Would it be worth trying?? Who could do that?? Should I go back and get it???
