Badger Hair Equivalents

I use a Simpson Colonel brush with Best Badger hair, which is just right for me. I am thinking of buying an Edwin Jagger brush, but am not sure what their hair quality equivalent to Simpsons Best would be, as most major manufacturers seem to have slightly different grading standards. Could anyone please offer any advice? Many thanks

Perhaps you just need another Simpson in best:001_rolle

If I had to guess it would be their Best or probably more closely the Super. I am sure someone will be along with a more definitive answer.

Go with Super about EJ. Their grading system is looking like money trap for some but EJ Super is remarkable than others. Also I want to buy a Colonel after Christmas after they have solved their standardization issues.

I can't speak for anything but the Best Badger for Edwin Jagger, but there's no comparison between a Simpson Best and an EJ Best. The EJ has far more of a prickliness to the tips, which was too irritating for me, but it does deserve credit for getting me interested in brushes.

The Simpson best from all the brushes I've tried are much softer, and more backbone as well. I'm hoping to have a Berkeley in a few months which would compare more favorably with the EJ BBB I had for a short time. Simpson best has some slight scrubbing power to it to me, but without that prickliness from the tips either painting the lather on or going in circular motions.

If the EJ Super is like the Vulfix Super then it probably wouldn't be bad, but the Simpson brushes in best or any other grade are awesome. Glad to keep adding to my list of Simpsons at least! :001_tt1:

Yeah, Simpsons Best > EJ Best. Go w/Super or Silvertip, or maybe a Rooney (also Silvertip or Super, but they're reverse in terms of quality from EJ with Super being higher :001_rolle)

Right, Hunter - in case I wasn't clear, I was suggesting that a Simpsons Best is much like Rooney Silvertip or Super Silvertip, or EJ Super or Silvertip (actually not far off in terms of cost as well). However, the EJ Best is really a step or two down (but, not shabby by any means).
