Bad boar hair on the mighty midget?

I got an omega mighty midget maybe a month ago. Up till now, I notice that the boar hairs on it don't split. My other omega boars splits just fine. What gives? Are the boar hairs on the mighty midget cheap or something? Maybe I should wait a little longer?

Had mine for a few months now in regular use. Just checked and, while there is some splitting, they appear to be in the minority. Nothing at all like the easy splitting with my other boar, the Omega B&B, which has oodles of splits.

Same here! My omega professional and my B&B Boar splits like crazy. The mighty midget is... not so mighty.

Blasphemer!!!
It definitely has more scritch for sure, but still does a great job for me both at home and on the road. YMMV at play for sure, but at least the hair is similar on our brushes.

I am new to Boardom, but my Omega 10049 has most of the hairs (or are they bristles?) showing long splits while my B&B Special has fewer percentage of splits, and the splits are very short. Both brushes are the same age but I have lathered up and dried out the Special many more times I like the 49 a lot more.

I got one of these at the same time as a Semogue 1250 a couple months ago. It did seem to break in much more slowly, the Semogue was much nicer after a week or so, while using the Omega irritated my face for a while afterwards. I used palm lathering + a blow dryer to speed it up for the Omega, and it's much better now. I'm not sure, but this brush might just take a long time to break in.

I am patient, as long as it breaks in for sure, then I am good to go. It is hard for me to put up with the mighty midget's short comings right now... because the Wee Scot is standing right next to it. :glare:

I have two Omega Mighty midget boar brushes that I have had for two years. They both have split and have very soft tips but the brush has maintained its firm backbone. This model is my favorite knot in a boar brush and I own two Semogues. The handle is very cheap so I rehandled the knot with a better quality handle. I don't remember how long it took for the tips to split. When I break in a boar I use it in the shower with bar soap to body lather for a month or so before I ever use it on my face. I thoroughly dry the brush gently with a dry microfiber cloth after use. It is amazing the amount of moisture you can remove from the brisles with a microfiber towel. I think the microfiber may help to split the hairs. So you could use the Wee Scot to shave with daily and use the Mighty Midget in the shower until it is broken in to your satisfaction.

My Mighty Midget is the mixed badger/boar and the boar hairs have split extremely well, backbone is excellent ...it's my second favorite brush in my rotation after my Duke 2 Best

I couldn't agree more. I love mine it is a great tiny brush but it isn't stupidly small like the wee scot. Give it time and be patient. It also isn't mega money so if you still don't like it you're not losing much money

From what I've heard, the bristles mainly split when the brush is drying out. If you want to try to break it in faster, you can do a practice bowl/palm lather with it, then dry it with a hair dryer and let it sit out until it's bone-dry, then repeat.

I find it too scritchy for face lathering. However I have used it less than 30 times. Is it because it is not 'broken in' yet? I thought the scritch is due to the pure badger rather the boar hair in the mix?

I am confused as to what brush you have. The Mighty Midget description unfortunately has been given to two brushes. One is pure boar model 40033 and the other is a mixed badger/boar model 11047. Can you identify which brush you have? They are very different brushes.

Since he's talking boar hair, it has to be the "mixed" version. otherwise, he'll REALLY be waiting a long time for the boar tips to split

Not sure about OP's but mine is the mixed 11047. As much as I love the size and the handle, i am seriously thinking of getting rid of it because of the prickly feel. But will palm lather patiently for 2 weeks to see if it wil get softer. A check shows the boar hair are already split...

I don't understand your point. Please, explain to me why it has to be the "mixed" version. I am refering to boar bristle which each brush has.

There are two versions of the Might Midget:
1. badger hair only
2. mixture of badger and boar

If OP is talking about boar hair not splitting, it has to be the mixed version.

It could be either. Correct?

Looks like we're both wrong....

... now I have to track down the pure boar version

UPDATE:
This thread from 2011 identifies that the PURA SETOLA is actually mixed badger/boar, further confirmed as such by ShoeBox ShaveShop's listing.

Whew, don't have to buy another of these expensive puppies :tongue_sm
