What's new

Aw CRAP! My Semogue 1305 fell 6 feet

The good news = it is intact. :001_cool:

The bad news = huge paint chips. :cursing:

I'll ponder what to do next. If I order another Semogue boar it'll be the SOC in Cherry.

Anybody else have a 1305 that did a header off the shave shelf?

No. I was born with very fast reflexes and caught mine before it hit the floor. My toe smarted for awhile after that though.:biggrin1:

I'd be shocked if there were 1305 owners without paint chips. They're like battle scars. Chicks dig scars. (Mine has two pretty big ones just from falling into the sink)

My 1305 is actually still completely unchipped, though well used. But I feel like I'm missing something, and that getting a chip in the paint seems like a kind of rite of passage and it won't truly be truly be mine until it gets one. But it's not something you can fake by doing it deliberately - it has to be a genuine accident.

+1 ... mine is chipped in 3 places. I may get around to painting over the scars with nail polish or something, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything. The paint job on the handle wasn't that great to begin with, mine has plenty of bubbles and drips even before it got chipped.

I'm more worried about the business end. My 1305 is going on 4 years old, and seems to be past its prime the last few months. Its getting too floppy and doesn't hold as much water as before, but its not shedding at all. Guess its time to put it out to pasture and get a new one.

Unfortunately 1305 and in general painted wood Semogue handles are very delicates (my 1335 can speak about that...). If you are lucky and have one from a good batch (and you are very careful with it) probably you won't have chips in many months... but if you have one from a bad batch, you'll have chips very quickly with only a couple of uses.

Recently there have been a lot of cases here in Spain, so people are returning their brushes and changing them for non painted ones like 1800 or acrylic handles. Semogue has a really big issue with this, even with newer batches like "Italian version".

Cheers!

Based on simply reading a lot of B&B posts over the years about the beautiful painted handle on the 1305 getting chipped, it seemed to me as if it was the final step in breaking in the brush.

Greg, a six-foot drop is a pretty significant drop. As I recall, my relatively new 1305 took a header when it jumped out of my wet lathered hands and hit the hard ceramic floor. It now has a small chip on the edge of the base.

Alan, if your brush is unmarred, more power to you! For me, the 1305 paint scheme is tremendous.

Sir Elder, I know from reading older forums that Semogue had some early issues with paint bubbling up on earlier 1305's as well as problems with the finish on the 2000. My 2010 1305 has a wonderful coat of paint, as does my 1460 manufactured around the same time. My year old 2000's finish remains flawless. Yet, one cannot argue the experiences of many men. I hope Semogue can arrive at some consistency in that matter. Switching to the 1800

DPM802, your post is the most disturbing for me. I think that my 1305 is not lathering quite like it used to. I've cleaned it with dish detergent, vinegar/water, and water/borax and although it still makes lather, it's not quite the lather machine that it was. Interestingly my 830, which has the same bristle seems largely unaffected. The 1460/1250 with best hair has held up wonderfully as has the 1800.

Mine is several months old and still pristine, but every time it "clinks" against the side of my shave mug I tighten up down there.

Mine was a real beauty with a flawless paint job. Now it has character.

I'll post a damage photo when the sun comes up.

Mine is still intact after 2 years of usage but the metal ring has cracked...no idea why that happened, never dropped it before...never soaked the handle either.
