G'day and welcome Hu55lin.

I know of this from my internet searches but no nothing of their range or service. If you check them out, would be interested in feedback.

If you do go in person would really appreciate if you could suss out there postage rates and getting a full catalog out to the nation.

Hey guys, another Aussie here.

I would also like to try out some T&H colonge samples, but have no idea where to get them from.
Simply Direct said they couldn't give any out :(

I don't have any great advice other than the fact that SD's prices are very fair at the moment. Perhaps just read the descriptions and take a punt. It would be nice if they stocked a (paid-for) sample kit.

Cheers

Jeremy

The shaver shop in Warringah mall in brookvale, sydney has col conk bay rum for $10. Normally they have only proraso and some king of shaves stuff.

Woohoo!

Welcome. There is a shaving shop in the Myer Centre.

Gents,

Given the strength of the Australian dollar, it’s cheaper to buy overseas and pay for the additional cost of priority shipping to Australia.

Two weeks ago I called Charles at QED (http://www.qedusa.com/ ) and purchased 5 shaving creams, Shaving Brush - Savile Row 3824 (Based on Joel's high recommendation) and the Merkur Classic Long Handle. Shipping was around US$20.00, obviously this will vary with weight. However, when I compare the prices with the Australian vendors, I still saved over 30% and received excellent service and advise in going through Charles at QED.

Clearly we’re lagging behind the rest of the world in the shaving department. Also, the strength of the Australian Dollar has not had any impact on the Australian vendors reducing their prices.

I agree with this, with a couple of exceptions. Some of the T&H offerings through Simplicity Direct. Firstly, I don't think that you can order colognes from the US. And secondly, the local prices of T&H colognes are cheaper than overseas ones. That said, the price of their after shave balms has gone up in a big way recently. The other exception is the Provence Sante soaps that I purchased. The price was great.

Another Tabac find (again in bloody Sydney). Not the soap, but I'm sure if someone were to contact the pharmacist who runs the site he could get it in. I'll keep this site on the radar when supplies are low, but post back here if you try it (and they have a pickup point in Bondi Junction):

Phramacy Online

There is an outdoor market at the corso in manly (sydney), i was down there the other day, just strolling through (actually, looking for a stand for brush/razor) and there was a guy selling hand made soaps. Surprise surprise he had a shaving soap, a pretty decent size for $3.50!

Anyway, i forgot about it until thisafternoon and gave it a whirl. Ive only used it the once, so these are just first impressions... It made pretty thin lather, which didnt seem slippery at all, but it actually was pretty good once on and gave an irritation free shave. It dried up pretty quickly on the face AND in the bowl, but thats probably just down to poor technique on a new soap (ill try a harder brush next). Smells very nice, kinda eucalyptic and bushy somehow.

Cut a long story short, if youre down there on a weekend its easily worth $3.50 (and he sells 3 for 10 of a range of diff soaps, so you can get SWMBO something too :>)

Evening all,

I was just wondering, lads, if anyone has attempted to attain samples of products?

As highlyevolved said, SD, the distributors of T&H cant help us out, but I've just sent off emails direct to the T&H.com.au site (doesnt hurt to just ask the question) and also

I actually tried to do a round up of this list of suppliers listed here Sample Request emails thread and my results have been:

[email protected]: no response yet. If this changes I'll be sure to let you know
[email protected] - no response yet.
[email protected] - For 3.40 pounds get this sample pack
[email protected] - No deal, dont ship overseas.
[email protected] - no response yet.
[email protected] - No deal "Unfortunately we do not send samples outside of the USA."
[email protected] - TING! "I will arrange for samples to be sent to you". Giddy up.
[email protected] - No deal "appreciate the interest. Unfortunately we only ship within the US."
[email protected] -no response yet.

In addition to that list (and the above mentioned), I also contacted some locals:

www.skincarestore.com.au - No deal, BUT "If any of our products cause you dissatisfaction, you can return the unused portion of a Skincarestore product for a full refund, less delivery charges. The product's unused proportion remaining must be 50% or more." That might not be so bad, mates. Get a whole stack of stuff in, decant 45% of it, send it back. That actually sounds like a real winner - but I'm not sure I could do it with a totally clear conscience.
www.artofman.com - No deal, though they hope to make sample packs available for sale in future.
www.formen.com.au has some free samples available at a cost of $7.25 postage.
Proraso.com.au - no deal, but directed me to their list of suppliers saying 'they will offer a money back guarantee with a personalized service'.

If anyone here has anything to add to our supply chain issues or if you've had any luck with attaining samples, I'd love to hear about it.

Cheers,

CB

PS have any of you ever gone in for a str8 shave in any of the old barbers in Sydney or Melb? Would you even want to try it? Stay safe.

I have just ordered a couple of soaps from this place and I'll post a review when I try them. I hope the quality of their soaps is superior to the quality of their spelling. Even after I queried a "gentile shaving soap", they remained clueless. (I had to explain.)

And the only straight shave I plan on getting in Sydney is the one that I inflict on myself when the Le Grelot turns up. Especially after reading of your experience.

Cheers

I have had a straight shave from a barber here who used a sanguine. It wasn't a bad shave but I did end up with a few "dot" cuts. I do a better job myself.

I should note that there is a barber shop on the corner of victoria st and russel st in the city. Might be worth checking it out, seems like the real deal.

I must email them saying I'm interested in their products but ask if they supply kosher shave soaps.

And I really just did email them asking if they make kosher soaps. Hopefully that will get laugh at someone's desk in their office tomorrow morning :)

Hullo Aussies!

Im trying to compile a list of Australian based suppliers (or international with very resonable shipping rates) for shaving supplies to create a dedicated aust list for new members (or for existing members to contine their AD's). Its been basically from this thread, but im trying to make it easier to browse for local vendors.

If you have had a very good or very bad experience with any of these place, if any prices stike you as stupid or awesome, or if ive missed anything out. please let me know - though this thread or a PM - and in a couple of weeks, ill compile the complete list and add it to the wiki or somewhere suitable.

thanks.
