August - 31 day Soap Elimination Matchups - Name your contestants

In July, Vitos Coconut hammered Provence Sante Green Tea right out of my rotation.

Starting August 1, two more soaps will be used on alternating days to determine which one stays in rotation.

The combatants in August will be two highly regarded vegetable based soaps:

Truefitt & Hill Luxury Shaving Soap vs. eShave Avocado Oil & Linden
This should be a great matchup! T&H has an edge in scent but the eShave has some serious skin care qualities and is slick as can be...

What soaps are you going to put into the cage?

The battle begins tomorrow morning. The tools for the first week are displayed with the 2 combatants.

A coin flip may decide which one goes first. :thumbup1:

One of these soaps (maybe both?) will be bounced out of my rotation after this 31 day contest.
Shave performance, cushion, glide, scent and skincare are all factors. May the best soap win.

I like this idea, I'll bite...

I'm going with a classic match-up: England - TOBS Lavender vs. France - Pre de Provence.

My hardware will remain the same - EJ 86/89, Feathers, and Simpsons Commodore x2.

Pdp will start things off tomorrow. This sounds fun.

Allright! More participants :thumbup1:

T&H started off this first week with a decent, but not great, shave. Lather seemed a bit thin but a month will help me figure it out.

PdP is one of those soaps I tried to like and in the end I decided it was just the scent I liked.

So I bought the balm and sold the soap.

If the TOBS Lav is older it should throttle the PdP.

I love this idea, but I really like all of my soaps, so I don't know if I would want to banish one of my soaps after the month is over.....but would love to do a month of Mike's Natural vs Mystic Water

Do it and you'll know which one works better for you.

Having a massive soap inventory isn't worth it. I went past 40 soaps in my cupboard before I figured this out, :scared:

Well, the first (short) week of August is over and I've shaved with both soaps twice. Alternating between two soaps makes their differences quite clear.
These are both damn fine soaps and both would have beaten the Provence Sante used last month.

So far I'll rate them as follows:

Cushion: eShave Avocado - the lather is more "gooey" which is a quality I like in good tallow based soaps

Glide: eShave Avocado - this catagory is closer and both soaps perform well here.

Closeness: T&H Luxury - my face and its problem areas has been super smooth after both of this weeks shaves. Maybe less cushion = more closeness?

Skin Care: eShave Avocado - I've skipped using balms this week and both soaps leave my face feeling fine (after a Witch Hazel splash) but the edge goes to the eShave.

Scent: T&H Luxury - A mixed lavender scent beats the "linden" scent of the eShave any day for me.

I read about a soap having "crispy" lather once and didn't understand this description but now I think it may apply to the T&H. It certainly likes a slow build with paintbrush strokes.

Next week sees these tools added to the mix.

1941 Ranger Tech loaded with a Super Iridium and a Semogue SOC 2-band.

The Ranger Tech is more aggressive than the EJ and the SOC should load soap faster than the Duke 3. Will the tools alter how the soaps perform? Stay tuned....

C'mon T&H. Baby needs a new pair of shoes.

I'm not finished with this week.... but the more aggressive razor didn't improve things for the T&H. My first shave with the 41 RT and T&H had too many weepers.
Lack of cushion was the culprit again.

Next week I'm thinking of using a Semogue 1305 with a Merkur HD or OC razor but I will take suggestions.
