Astras vs Yellow 7s?

Not tried the 7s, but I do like the Astras. Is there much of a difference between them? I've heard more or less identical comments about each blade and would be interested to here from someone who's tried both.

I know they are very poplular. I was just about to try them ages ago when a few pro-Astra threads were put up and I thought I'd try them instead. There's really nothing wrong with them, but was checking as I seem to remember some people having a bad reaction to the 7s, but most people who tried the Astras seemed to think they were at least pretty decent.

Yeah, I remember a few people who had reactions. I never have that problem. As I say frequently I have skin like a Rhino, so far I've been able to use any/all shave related products.

I was really dissapointed at havinga reaction to T&H luxury soap. It was great stuff, but the lavender just didnt work. Got rid of my Tabac and Speik just the other day as the smell was putting me off- straight in the bin (sniff)

I haven't tried the T&H Luxury Soap. Love Tabac, didn't care for Speick

If by "astra" you mean the Super Pts, then it's a close call. I have both as my "go to" blade(s). The Astras might be just a touch smoother, but it's really a close call for me. Love 'em both.

(the astra keramiks, otoh, are really irritating for my face)

Yeah, its the Super Platinums I use too. Just checking I'm not doing myself out of a wonderful shave by just "settling" for the Astras. Blades are the last piece of the puzzle for me (and I think a lot of people). I hope I have a decent perspective/awareness of the qualities of all other items I'm using, e.g. if I dig out a Tech, I don't expect a superagressive shave but sometimes that's what I'm in the mood for, sometimes I'll use a different brush just for a change, but I know what I'm using. Not quite the same for blades at the moment.

The yellows are much smoother and last longer. Astras are sharp but requires much effort to find the correct blade angle. Blade life is also short.

FWIW... I get 7 shaves out of the yellows as well as the Astra Pts. YMMV, of course.

Well, unless all the Astra users are on holiday it looks like the Y7s are unequivocally better. I'll definitely need to try them. Thanks everyone

Addendum:
Looks like my big blade order'll have to wait....just got surprise tickets to see AC-DC tonight at Hampden Stadium!

I too like both the Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows and the Astra Super Platinum blades and find them to be very similar. I give a bit of an edge to the Gillette Yellows in terms of performance but the Astras are considerably cheaper. So...it is a close call.
