Aristocrat questions...

How rare are the 1930's style rhodium plated US Aristocrats (TTO, open comb), and what are the sets typically going for (ie: what would I expect to pay)? I really want one of these, but have no idea what they are worth.

US Aristocrat, but gold plated:

Alternately, what about the British #15 or #20 Aristocrats (also rhodium plated, TTO, and open comb)...rarity and value?

Also, in the Wiki for the 30's style US Aristocrat, it states that there are gold and rhodium plated versions, but for the Executive, it states that this is the only verified US Gillette with rhodium plating...I'm confused...are any US Aristocrats in rhodium replates then, or just unverified? You can tell a US and British one from each other easily (rivets on the ends, the patent info, etc), so it's not like you'd be fooled by a British one in an otherwise US set.

Anyway, any info you guys can give regarding these awesome razors, I'd appreciate it. (Also, if you're considering selling one, please PM with info :thumbup1:)

For the 30's American Aristocrat, In Excellent or better condition, I would expect to pay at least $100. They can be had for around $40-$50 if the plating is all worn. There isn't a lot of them floating about on ebay, but usually at least one at all times.

The British ones go for quite a bit more. $200 and up.

*Note that I am pricing them as if they have their original case and that they can be had for less if you find in an antique store or you find an auction that goes under the radar (once in a blue moon)

Thanks Scotty, I appreciate the info! I guess if I was going to USE it, which I would, I might as well go for one that is perfect mechanically and physically, but has plate loss, and get it replated in rhodium. But hell, I'd still pay around a hundred easily if it was as you describe (cased, excellent or better, etc.). Sigh...a guy can dream, I suppose!
