What's new

Ariana & Evans - Daniele Maullu - Legacy Shaving Soap

I see A&E, TRC, and @marhave this new soap.

How is it?

Interesting...is it K2e?

Edit: no, it's not K2e.

"Legacy Ingredients: Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Water, Beef Tallow, Shea Butter, Shorea Butter, Castor Oil, Kokum Butter, Emu Oil, Mango Seed Butter, Palm Fruit, Fragrance, Murumuru Butter, Cupuacu Butter, Illippe Butter, Goats Milk, Silk Amino Acids, Aloe, Sodium Lactate, Tussah Silk, Saccharomyces Ferment"

apparently it is a novel base that was designed to be "akin to MdC"

One of the criteria for K2e is cost. This one is a no cost spared base that seems otherwise the same criteria. The other criterion for this one is to be good enough to rival MdC. I don't know if that means it has some similarity to MdC other than the obvious price, attempted timeless and versatile fragrance, and 200g glass jar. Maybe it is hard, or lightly fragranced. I am curious about that part.

I hadn’t been following A&E much recently until @Well_Groomed_Yeti sent me a sample of this to try. I tried it and immediately ordered my own.

I was really into K2e for a while, but drifted to SV, Moon, MacDuffs, B&M and Ethos around the time Ultima was coming out.

The performance of this new Legacy base is definitely top notch in my opinion. I would say similar to Moon maybe. The scent is also excellent. To my unrefined sense of smell it is sweet citrus and spice with some floral to balance it out. I rarely buy the matching splash, but I ordered the splash of this when it was available.

Just my 2 cents. I hope it helps.

The guy who runs our shaving channel on telegram in Italy reviewed it in a YouTube video and said the formula is better than their latest formula.

Fragrance an explosion of citrus fruits excel: Sicilian Bergamot Lemon, Mandarin & Tarocco Oranges from Sicily, Rosemary, Geranium, Lavender, Iris, Talcum Powder, Incense, Coumarin, Oakmoss, Oud, Sandalwood. Guaic Wood

A luxury soap! In Italy currently costs about 70 €, too much for me even for about 200 grams of soap.
I can still wait a while to purchase it.

I went to TRC this morning and picked it up. Off the puck, it seems more fragrant than MdC, much more like SV. A finger poke indicates it is probably close to K2e formula, which is a good thing for me. It is definitely an American style croap.

About 3 years ago I took the decisions to use tallow-free soaps only and have not used any tallow since. Sorry I cannot provide any useful information this time, my friend.
Gotcha. Thanks for the response.

Just realized I had the wrong Marco. It was @motto posting about this soap. Sorry about that, @Marco

Anyway, I will update when I try it later.
The soap presents itself very well, yeah it looks like an MDC soap.

Let us know how you find it and I'm curious about your evaluation also scent which must be very pleasant.

I scouped too much. I thought this scoup would last a few days in the bowl, but it all lathered up one me. If you scoup it, just do the amount you want for one shave.

It is as soft as TOBS cream in a jar. Not like MdC or SV at all. Not that it should be the same as those soaps. Maybe it will be like those if it is left open for a few months. I don't want to change mine, so it is not an experiment I will do.

It is extremely fast. It formed a rich lather almost instantly.
1000012107.jpg

I like a slicker and wetter lather, which is also formed fast. It was easy to dial in something great.

I usually like to go a little thinner, but this was pretty wet. A few more swirls.

Exceptionally rich and creamy. Quite fragrant. Ready to shave.

This was the setup, a favorite bowl and brush, the TRC and Duke 2 Best. A very efficient hardware setup, a Schick Eversharp with Chinese Schick injector blade.

The shave was perfect. The feedback was perfect, the lather was incredibly slick. My skin feels smooth and soft. This is definitely one of the best bases I have ever tried, and is distinct from other American artesan bases, but also different from the luxury European vegan bases.

The fragrance is probably an aromatic fougere, since it checks all of the boxes, but it might lean more woody aromatic. The wood is the big component. There is some sweetness that gives a contemporary mass appeal. It is fundamentally masculine and has classic DNA of an Italian barbershop, like Floid. It smells like a strong cologne of good quality. It is well suited to people who want a strong woody aromatic fougere type fragrance. It definitely suits the young Italian celebrity barber.

It doesn't suit me quite so well. I love Fougeres, but I don't like strong and lingering scents in a soap or splash. I wear cologne every day, and in soap and splash, I want something that smells nice during use, but hides behind the cologne when I leave the bathroom. I would love to see a light soapy lavender rose geranium flower accord, a citrus accord, or even a fougere that is light, with vetiver, amber, and musk. The main thing is that it would be better if they dialed the fragrance way back. If they do an unscented version, I will settle for that, too.
